Chase Branscomb Named To The VaSID All-State Second Team

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Emory & Henry College senior forward Chase Branscomb has earned yet another postseason award. The Bristol, Tennessee native has been selected to the VaSID All-State Men's Basketball College Division Second Team, VaSID officials announced Friday.

Branscomb led the Wasps to their first-ever Old Dominion Athletic Conference title and their first appearance in the NCAA Division III Tournament since 1993. Emory & Henry posted a 22-7 overall record and an 11-5 mark in conference play.

The Tennessee High School graduate started all 29 games this year and averaged a team-leading 16.7 points and was second on the squad with 8.5 rebounds per contest. His scoring average was third in the ODAC while his rebounding numbers were fourth in the league. Branscomb reached double figures in scoring in 24 games during the year and hit the 1,000-point mark at Randolph-Macon College (Feb. 10).

Branscomb adds all-state honors to a bevy of other recognitions. He was named to the All-ODAC First Team, the ODAC Tournament Most Outstanding Player, the NABC All-South District Second Team and the D3hoops.com All-South Region Third Team.

James Contreras, Jr., of Averett University was tabbed as the State Player of the Year while Dimetri Chambers of Bridgewater College earned Rookie of the Year honors. Christopher Newport University mentor John Krikorian was selected as the State Coach of the Year.

The VaSID All-State teams are selected by sports information directors of member institutions of the Virginia Sports Information Directors across the Commonwealth of Virginia. VaSID, founded in 1983, selects teams in two divisions (University and College) for 12 sports and three single-division teams in addition to Academic All-State teams across all sports.
