Sewanee Men’s Basketball Defeats Emory & Henry, 69-62, Tuesday Evening

SEWANEE, Tenn. – The University of the South Men's Basketball Team (6-2) built a 35-19 lead at the break and held off a second-half rally by visiting Emory & Henry College (2-4) for a 69-62 non-conference win on Tuesday.

How It Happened
- The Tigers got out to a 12-2 lead at the 12:25 mark of the first half and used a 9-0 run later in the period to extend the lead to 34-17. The two squads each added a pair of points before the intermission with Sewanee taking a 35-19 advantage into the locker room.
- Emory & Henry got the margin down to 12 (38-26) with 18:34 left in the contest but eight straight points by the Tigers gave them their largest lead of the night, 46-26. E&H put together a 12-4 run to cut the margin to 55-46 with just under six to play and a 10-3 scoring spurt made it a six-point contest at 63-57 with 1:05 remaining.
- Sewanee made six of their final eight free throws to keep the Wasps at bay, claiming the 69-62 victory.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Senior guard Robert Holliday, Jr. (Kansas City, Kan.) led all players with 22 points and made it a double-double with a game-high 12 rebounds. He also tallied three assists and three steals.
- Freshman guard Kevin Grau Rodriguez (Tampa, Fla.) scored eight points off the bench while sophomore guard Jordan Grant (Orlando, Fla.) and freshman guard Malcolm Morgan (Concord, N.C.) had seven points each.
- Senior guard Colin Molden (Apex, N.C.) pulled down 10 rebounds in the contest.

Sewanee Individual Leaders
- The Tigers saw four players reach double figures in scoring led by Joey Knox with 17 points and eight rebounds while Adrian Thomas had 14 points and eight boards.
- Ryan Starr put up 11 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals while Michael Barry finished with 10 points, seven rebounds and four steals.

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry shot just 34.9 percent (22-of-63) for the game with seven makes from long range. The Wasps struggled at the line, hitting just 11-of-20 (55%) of their attempts.
- Sewanee went 23-for-60 (38.3%) from the field and cold from outside at 19 percent (4-for-21). The Tigers scored 19 points at the stripe, hitting 67.9 percent of their uncontested shots.
- Sewanee held a 51-39 rebounding advantage and outscored E&H, 36-24, on points in the paint.
- The Wasps made the most of 18 Tiger errors, leading 20-18, on points off turnovers.
