Wesley Men’s Basketball Downs Emory & Henry, 97-75, In Captains Shootout Saturday Afternoon

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Wesley College Men's Basketball Team (5-6) saw three players score 20 or more points on its way to a 97-75 win against Emory & Henry College (3-7) in the Holiday Inn Captains Shootout Saturday. The event is being hosted by Christopher Newport University.

How It Happened
- Wesley got out to a 15-4 lead at the 15:30 mark of the opening half but Emory & Henry scored nine in a row to close the gap to 15-13 less than three minutes later. The Wolverines ran the advantage back to double digits (28-16) leading by as much as 14 prior to the intermission.
- E&H got within seven points (46-39) on the first possession of the second half but Wesley used a 19-7 run to extend its lead to 65-46 with 12:49 left to play. A 13-3 run by the Wasps got the score within nine (68-59) nine minutes remaining, but the Wolverines scored nine in a row to retake control and cruised to the 97-75 victory.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Sophomore guard Anthony Williams (Lynchburg, Va.) and freshman guard Malcolm Morgan (Concord., N.C.) each scored 16 points to lead the Wasps. Williams added three rebounds and a steal while Morgan went for two boards, two steals, an assist and a block.
- Sophomore guards Jordan Grant (Orlando, Fla.) and Micah Banks (Simpsonville, S.C.) each had 10 points and four rebounds.

Wesley Individual Leaders
- Brian Cameron posted a game-high 34 points, going 11-for-17 from the field with five makes from long range. He completed his double-double with 10 rebounds and tacked on three assists.
- Greg Bloodsworth had 21 points, five rebounds and four assists while Mychal Stefanides contributed 20 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals.
- Derick Charles tallied a double-double on 14 points and 10 rebounds while Terrence Braxton notched 14 points, six assists and three blocks.

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry shot just 35.8 percent (24-for-67) for the game but make 12 shots from three-point range. The Wasps converted 15-of-17 (88.2%) of their free throws.
- Wesley went 29-for-71 (40.8%) from the field with 13 triples. The Wolverines made 81.3 percent (26-of-32) of their free throw tries.
- Wesley held a 57-31 rebounding advantage and used 22 offensive boards to lead, 20-13, on second-chance points.
- The Wolverines led, 28-20, on points in the paint and 11-4 on points off turnovers.

- Emory & Henry will take on Bethany (W.Va.) College on Sunday in the consolation game of the Holiday Inn Captains Shootout. Tipoff will be at 2:00 p.m.
