Emory & Henry Men’s Basketball Rallies To Defeat Shenandoah, 88-84, Saturday In Regular Season Finale

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Men's Basketball Team (7-18, 4-12 ODAC) clinched a spot in the 2020 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament Saturday afternoon, earning an 88-84 come-from-behind win over Shenandoah University (6-19, 3-13 ODAC).

The contest also served as Senior Day for the Wasps, who honored their two senior players and senior team manager prior to tipoff.

How It Happened
- The squads battled to a 17-all score midway through the opening half but E&H scored seven of the next 10 points for a 24-20 advantage. The Hornets responded to close the half on a 23-9 run for the 43-33 margin at the intermission.
- Shenandoah pushed its lead to 11 early in the second and used a 12-3 scoring run to lead 61-47 with 13:19 on the clock. Down by 10 with 10:35 remaining, the Wasps stormed into the contest with a 15-4 run to go ahead, 70-69.
- The final seven minutes had six lead changes and three ties as both E&H and SU understood the postseason implications of the contest. The Wasps went ahead for good with 2:12 to go as sophomore guard Anthony Williams (Lynchburg, Va.) hit a jumper in the paint for an 82-80 lead.
- Emory & Henry was perfect from the line in the closing minute, sealing the 88-84 victory and postseason berth.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Williams finished with a game-high 27 points on 9-for-15 shooting and added eight rebounds while senior guard Colin Molden (Apex, N.C.) had 23 points, 11 assists, seven rebounds, six steals and two blocks.
- Sophomore guard Jordan Grant (Orlando, Fla.) posted 21 points with four three-pointers and three assists while freshman guard Malcolm Morgan (Concord, N.C.) added 11 points, five rebounds and two assists.

Shenandoah Individual Leaders
- Christopher Chaney paced the Hornets with 20 points and nine rebounds while Zach Garrett had 18 points, four rebounds and four assists.
- Jalen Hill and Chris Oates went for 13 points apiece while Oates pulled down nine rebounds. Trammel Anthony tacked on 10 points and six boards.

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry hit 27-of-60 (45%) of its field goal attempts, connecting on 13 shots from long range. The Wasps also hit 84 percent (21-of-25) of their free throws.
- Shenandoah shot 43.8 percent (28-of-64) for the game with 11 triples. The Hornets went 17-for-21 (84%) at the charity stripe.
- SU held a 39-33 rebounding advantage and used 11 offensive boards to lead 30-26 on points in the paint and 10-8 on second-chance points.
- The E&H bench outscored its Shenandoah counterpart by a 32-23 margin.

Up Next
- Emory & Henry will now await the announcement of the field for the 2020 ODAC Tournament. The first round will be played on Tuesday with the #9 seed visiting the #8 seed while the 10th seed will travel to the seventh seed.
