Alice Lloyd Men’s Basketball Holds Off Emory & Henry, 76-69, Friday In Food City Tip-Off Classic

EMORY, Va. – The Alice Lloyd College Men's Basketball Team (3-0) was able to absorb a late second-half rally by Emory & Henry College (0-1) to claim a 76-69 win in the Food City Tip-Off Classic Friday evening.

How It Happened
- The two squads battled through 10 ties and 10 lead changes during the opening 20 minutes. The Eagles had the largest lead of the frame at 5-0 while the Wasps' biggest advantage came as a four-point lead after an 8-3 run. With the score tied at 35 with 1:50 to go before the break, ALC scored a pair of fast-break buckets to go into the break, up 39-35.
- Coming out of the intermission, Alice Lloyd scored the first points of the second to lead 42-35. The Wasps cut the deficit to 49-48 with 15:44 on the clock but the Eagles extended the margin back to eight with a 10-7 run which covered 3:35.
- Down by 12 (68-56) with 6:20 to go, Emory & Henry went on an 11-3 run to make it a 71-67 contest. ALC five of the final seven points of the evening to win, 76-69.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Freshman forward Cade Looney (Grundy, Va.) led all players with 18 points and added five rebounds and two steals.
- Junior guard Malcolm Morgan (Concord, N.C.) posted 13 points, seven rebounds and two assists while sophomore guard Patrick Antonelli (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) went for 13 points, four rebounds, five assists and two steals.
- Junior forward Dylan Catron (Chilhowie, Va.) added nine points and six rebounds while freshman guard Jalen Leftwich (Lynchburg, Va.) had nine points off the bench.

Alice Lloyd Individual Leaders
- Ben Soumahoro led the Eagles with 14 points on five-for-eight shooting and pulled down seven rebounds while Bryce Slone notched 13 points, four assists and three steals.
- Damon Tobler had 13 points while Noah Young recorded 12 points and three rebounds.
- Will Philpot came one point away from a double-double with nine points and 10 boards.

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry shot 42.6 percent (29-for-68) for the game with six three-pointers. The Wasps were just 5-for-8 (62.5%) at the free throw line.
- Alice Lloyd hit 29-of-57 (50.9%) of its shots with five makes from long range. The Eagles converted 68.4 percent (13-of-19) of their trips to the stripe.
- E&H held a 35-34 rebounding advantage and used 13 offensive boards to lead 17-12 on second-chance points. The Wasps outscored the Eagles, 46-38, in the paint and 23-7 on fast-break points.
