Pikeville Men’s Basketball Rallies To Defeat Emory & Henry, 83-71, Tuesday Evening

EMORY, Va. – The University of Pikeville Men's Basketball Team (6-0) saw four players reach double figures in scoring on Tuesday as it earned an 83-71 win over Emory & Henry College (3-2).

How It Happened
- Emory & Henry got out to a 10-5 lead at the 14:15 mark of the opening half before Pikeville posted a 13-5 run of its own to go up 18-16. The Wasps bounced back, scoring 10 of the next 12 points for a 26-20 advantage and 3:53 to go before the intermission. E&H and UPIKE went back and forth for the remainder of period with the Wasps going into the locker room up, 35-33.
- The first 2:05 of the second half saw E&H come out on a 7-2 run for its largest lead of the night, 42-35. The Bears began to carve into the margin, scoring 11 in a row during a span of 1:47 to take a 58-53 lead. Pikeville continued to build its lead through the remainder of the contest, reaching a 10-point advantage with 5:36 to go and topping out at an 81-66 lead with 50 seconds to play on its way to an 83-71 victory.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Freshman forward Cade Looney (Grundy, Va.) led the Wasps with 21 points and added three rebounds and three steals while junior guard Malcolm Morgan (Concord, N.C.) had 12 points, three rebounds and three assists.
- Freshman forward Gabe Brown (Clintwood, Va.) notched 11 points, seven rebounds and two steals while senior guard Micah Banks (Simpsonville, S.C.) went for nine points and four rebounds off the bench. Freshman guard Jalen Leftwich (Lynchburg, Va.) had six points and eight assists.

Pikeville Individual Leaders
- Korbin Spencer put up game-highs with 22 points and 10 rebounds while Kevin Bishop, II registered 11 points and nine boards.
- Kenyon Duling tacked on 12 points, four assists and two rebounds as Taevon Horton chipped in 10 points and seven rebounds.

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry shot 33.8 percent (24-for-71) from the field with seven three-pointers. The Wasps went 16-for-21 (76.2%) from the line.
- Pikeville went 26-for-55 (47.3%) for the game with seven makes from long range. The Bears hit 75% (24-for-32) of their free throw attempts.
- UPIKE held a 43-36 rebounding advantage and outscored E&H, 38-32, in the paint. The Wasps outscored the Bears, 12-9 on second-chance points, taking advantage of 14 offensive rebounds.
- E&H scored 25 points off 17 Pikeville turnovers as the Bears' bench outscored their Wasp counterpart, 62-14.
