Malone Men’s Basketball Pulls Away From Emory & Henry, 80-72, Monday Afternoon

CANTON, Ohio – The Malone University Men's Basketball Team (9-2) put together a late second-half rally to beat visiting Emory & Henry College (7-4) Monday afternoon. The contest was the final game of 2021 for Emory & Henry.

How It Happened
- The squads traded baskets back and forth for the opening 20 minutes with Malone leading, 31-30, at the break. Neither team led by more than three points during the half with four ties and six lead changes highlighting the period.
- Coming out of the break, the Wasps used a 12-5 run to go ahead 50-43 with 12:55 on the clock. Malone notched a 12-3 scoring spurt to regain the advantage, 55-53, two and a half minutes later. The teams would again trade baskets to a 60-60 stalemate before the Pioneers reeled off seven in a row to take a lead they would never relinquish. Emory & Henry would get no closer than five the rest of the way as Malone came away with the 80-72 victory.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Junior guard Malcolm Morgan (Concord, N.C.) had a team-high 20 points and added nine rebounds, five assists and two steals while freshman forward Cade Looney (Grundy, Va.) went for 19 points, five boards and two blocks.
- Freshman guard Jalen Leftwich (Lynchburg, Va.) had 16 points and four rebounds as freshman forward Gabe Brown (Clintwood, Va.) contributed seven points, five rebounds and three assists.

Malone Individual Leaders
- Bryce Butler tallied 20 points, eight assists and five rebounds to lead the Pioneers while Levi Seller went for 17 points, five boards and three steals.
- Bo Myers registered 16 points, two rebounds and two assists as Justin Miller went for 13 points, six rebounds and four assists off the bench.

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry made 30-of-67 (44.8%) of its field goal attempts with seven makes from long range. The Wasps only reached the free throw line six times on the afternoon, but converted five of their attempts (83.3%).
- Malone shot 41.2 percent (28-for-68) for the game, hitting 11 three-pointers. The Pioneers also made out well at the charity stripe, shooting 13-for-15 (86.7%).
- The two teams tied on rebounding, 39-39, but E&H made the most of 15 offensive rebounds for a 15-11 lead on second-chance points. The Wasps also held a 38-34 advantage on points in the paint.
- MU outscored E&H, 19-15, on points off turnovers and held a 17-8 margin on bench scoring.
