Emory & Henry Men’s Basketball Falls To Coastal Carolina, 76-62, In Exhibition Sunday Afternoon

CONWAY, S.C. – The Emory & Henry College Men's Basketball Team (8-4) outscored Coastal Carolina University (9-5) by a 39-33 margin in the second half, but the Chanticleers came away with a 76-62 win Sunday afternoon. The contest was the second of two exhibitions against NCAA Division I programs for the Wasps. E&H also faced off against Radford University on Tuesday, November 9 to get the season started.

How It Happened
- Coastal Carolina got out to a 9-2 lead at the 15:21 mark of the opening half, extending the margin to 18-7 three and a half minutes later. A 12-0 run by the Chanticleers extended the advantage to 35-13 as they took a 20-point score (43-23) into the locker room.
- The two teams traded baskets for the first part of the second half with CCU leading 57-34 with 12:39 to play. Emory & Henry began to carve into the lead with a 13-6 run, getting to 63-47 with 6:12 to go. Down by 17 with 5:00 on the clock, a 12-6 run by the Wasps made it an 11-point game (73-62), but the Chanticleers were able to hold off the rally for the 76-62 win.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Senior guard Micah Banks (Simpsonville, S.C.) led the Wasps with 15 points, adding five rebounds and four assists while freshman forward Cade Looney (Grundy, Va.) notched 13 points and two boards.
- Junior guard Malcolm Morgan (Concord, N.C.) had nine points, four assists, and two rebounds as freshman forward Gabe Brown (Clintwood, Va.) went for nine points, seven rebounds and two assists.
- Freshman guard Jalen Leftwich (Lynchburg, Va.) tacked on seven points, six rebounds and three assists.

Coastal Carolina Individual Leaders
- Essam Mostafa put up a game-high 20 points to go along with 13 rebounds and three assists to lead the Chanticleers.
- Vince Cole went for 18 points with two rebounds while Rudi Williams added 12 points, two rebounds and two assists.
- Wilfred Likayi contributed eight points, seven rebounds and three blocks.

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry made 23-of-65 (35.4%) of its shots with five three-pointers. The Wasps shot 68.8 percent (11-for-16) from the free throw line.
- Coastal was an even 50 percent (27-for-54) from the field with four makes from long range. The Chants struggled at the stripe, hitting just 18-of-33 (54.5%) of their free throws.
- CCU led 41-39 on the boards and 40-28 on points in the paint.
- E&H managed a 15-9 advantage on fast-break points.
