Emory & Henry Men’s Basketball Dismantles The Apprentice School, 101-81, Saturday On The Road

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – For the second time in as many games, the Emory & Henry College Men's Basketball Team (11-4) topped the century mark, defeating The Apprentice School (6-8) by a 101-81 score on Saturday afternoon.

How It Happened
- Emory & Henry built a 57-23 lead at the half. After falling behind 4-0 in the opening two minutes, the Wasps went on a 19-6 run to lead, 19-10, with 12:27 on the clock. E&H scored 12 in a row later in the half to push the margin to 31-14 and closed the period with a 15-3 run on their way to the 34-point halftime advantage.
- Coming out of the break, the Builders opened on a 7-2 run to make the score 59-31 and used a 10-2 run to further carve into the deficit to make it a 66-43 contest. Emory & Henry bounced back to extend the lead to 30 (81-51) with just under nine minutes to go. Trailing by 27, The Apprentice School outscored E&H by a 20-13 margin in the final five and a half minutes but the deficit was too much to overcome and the Wasps won, 101-81

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Freshman guard Jacob Morgan (Huntersville, N.C.) led all players with 27 points off the bench, going 7-for-9 from beyond the arc. He added six rebounds in the contest.
- Freshman guard Jalen Leftwich (Lynchburg, Va.) posted 20 points, seven assists and four rebounds while senior guard Micah Banks (Simpsonville, S.C.) went for 13 points, seven rebounds and two assists.
- Freshman forwards Gabe Brown (Clintwood, Va.), Cade Looney (Grundy, Va.) and Jake Moynihan (Muncie, Ind.) each contributed nine points.

The Apprentice School Individual Leaders
- Marion Moore paced the Builders with 22 points on 10-for-17 shooting to go along with seven rebounds, four assists and three steals.
- Jayden Eason had 16 points, five boards and two steals while Adrion Wall went for 13 points off the bench.
- Corey Joyner tacked on 11 points, five assists, four rebounds and two steals.

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry went 38-for-72 (52.8%) from the floor with 11 triples on the afternoon. The Wasps shot 82.4 percent (14-for-17) at the free throw line.
- The Apprentice School made 45.9 percent (34-of-74) of their shots with seven makes from long range. The Builders were just 6-of-12 (50%) at the stripe.
- E&H held a 46-33 rebounding advantage and the Wasps bench outscored its counterpart, 60-23.
- The two teams tied, 15-15, on second-chance points as Apprentice led, 52-48, on points in the paint.
