Emory & Henry Men’s Basketball Defeats UVA Wise, 91-82, Tuesday On The Road

WISE, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Men's Basketball Team (12-4) avenged a December loss to the University of Virginia's College at Wise (1-16) as it picked up a 91-82 victory on the road on Tuesday evening. The Wasps have now won five straight contests.

How It Happened
- The two squads battled out to an 8-8 tie at the 16:30 mark of the first half before E&H put the next eight on the board to go ahead 16-8 and extended its lead to 27-14 with 10:19 to go in the half. After four in a row by the Cavaliers, the Wasps scored 16 in a row to go up 43-19 with 4:21 remaining before the intermission. Emory & Henry would lead, 50-34, at the break.
- Coming out of the break, UVA Wise closed the gap to 56-50 in the first five minutes of the second half. The two teams went back and forth for the next six minutes before a 7-2 run by the Wasps put them up 77-65 with under six minutes to go. The Cavaliers would get within five with 2:04 left to play but E&H held them off by making four of its final six free throws for the 91-82 win.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Freshman forward Cade Looney (Grundy, Va.) led the Wasps with 20 points and added five rebounds and three assists while freshman forward Gabe Brown (Clintwood, Va.) had a double-double with 16 points, 10 rebounds and four assists.
- Freshman guard Jalen Leftwich (Lynchburg, Va.) put up 11 points, four assists and sophomore guard Patrick Antonelli (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) went for 10 points, five rebounds, five assists and three steals.

UVA Wise Individual Leaders
- Isaiah McAmis notched a game-high 21 points to go along with four rebounds and three assists while Kerven Yacinthe put up 14 points and two boards off the bench.
- Tyler Lloyd tallied 12 points, seven rebounds and three assists as Grayson Honaker went for 12 points and three rebounds.

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry shot 43.5 percent (30-for-69) from the field with five three-pointers while UVA Wise made 28-of-55 (50.9%) of its shots with 10 makes from long range.
- E&H outscored Wise, 26-16, at the free throw line, making 76.5 percent of its attempts.
- The Wasps held a 40-32 rebounding advantage and outscored the Cavaliers 18-9 on second-chance points.
- Emory & Henry dominated down low, outscoring UVA Wise by a 50-36 margin on points in the paint.
