Emory & Henry Men’s Basketball Defeats Johnson & Wales, 94-83, Friday Afternoon

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Emory & Henry College Men's Basketball Team (13-4) saw four players reach double figures in scoring as it grabbed a 94-83 Friday afternoon win over Johnson & Wales (N.C.) University (7-9).

How It Happened
- The two teams traded baskets for the first eight minutes of the contest out to a 15-15 tie. An 8-2 run by the Wasps put them ahead 23-17 less than three minutes later. Leading by five, Emory & Henry put up 11 of the next 15 for a 36-25 advantage with 4:59 left before the break. E&H carried a 49-39 margin into the intermission.
- Returning to action, the squads went back and forth before Johnson & Wales cut the margin to 59-54 with 13:55 on the clock. An 11-3 run by the Wasps extended the margin back to 13 (70-57) with 10 minutes to play. Trailing by 15 with 7:21 to go, the Wildcats went on a 13-4 run to get within 83-77 with 3:01 remaining. Emory & Henry made 11 of its final 14 free throws to hold off the JWU rally for the 94-83 victory.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Freshman guard Gabe Brown (Clintwood, Va.) hit seven three-pointers as he put up a game-high 25 points to go along with seven rebounds and two steals while freshman guard Jalen Leftwich (Lynchburg, Va.) had 15 points, four rebounds and two assists.
- Freshman guard Jacob Morgan (Huntersville, N.C.) put up 13 points off the bench as junior guard Malcolm Morgan (Concord, N.C.) added 11 points, six rebounds and three assists.

Johnson & Wales (N.C.) Individual Leaders
- Fred Patterson paced the Wildcats with 20 points and five rebounds as Anthoney Ray went for 12 points and four boards.
-  De'Andre Williams and J.C. Cooper each scored 12 points off the bench with Williams contributing three rebounds.

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry hit 28-of-59 (47.5%) of its field goals on the evening and went 14-of-29 (48.3%) from beyond the arc. The Wasps were also an efficient 72.7 percent (24-for-33) at the stripe.
- Johnson & Wales shot 43.1 percent (31-for-72) for the game but made just four triples. The Wildcats managed a 17-for-26 (65.4%) performance at the free throw line.
- E&H led, 39-38, on rebounding but 15 offensive rebounds by JWU translated into a 17-2 lead on second-chance points.
- The Wildcats led 38-22 on points in the paint while the Wasps managed an 18-13 margin on points off turnovers.

Up Next
- Emory & Henry will return home on Monday to face Warren Wilson College at 5:30 p.m. The contest will be the first game of a doubleheader with the E&H women.
