Bluefield Men’s Basketball Rallies To Defeat Emory & Henry, 91-84, Thursday Evening

BLUEFIELD, Va. – The Bluefield University Men's Basketball Team (15-9) scored 61 points in the second half to pick up a 91-84 come-from-behind victory against Emory & Henry College (14-7) Thursday evening.

How It Happened
- The two teams jostled for control early with Bluefield taking a 10-9 advantage with 15:45 on the clock. E&H went on a 14-5 run for a 23-15 lead five minutes later and stretched the margin to 46-30 at the half thanks in part to a 10-2 run to close the period.
- Coming out of the break, the Wasps scored five in a row to go up by 21 (51-30) just 49 seconds into the half. The Rams put together a 21-9 run to close the deficit to single digits at 60-51 with 12:49 left to play and regained the lead 80-73 with 2:02 on a 15-4 run that covered four minutes. Bluefield made 9-of-10 free throws in the final two minutes of the game to hold off any chance for an Emory & Henry comeback.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Freshman forward Gabe Brown (Clintwood, Va.) led the Wasps with 21 points, four rebounds and two assists going 6-for-12 from the floor and 6-for-6 from the line.
- Junior guard Malcolm Morgan (Concord, N.C.) had 18 points, eight rebounds and six assists as junior guard Kevin Grau Rodriguez (Tampa, Fla.) went for 12 points, seven boards and six assists off the bench.
- Freshman forward Cade Looney (Grundy, Va.) tallied 11 points in the contest while senior guard Malcolm Morgan (Simpsonville, S.C.) and sophomore guard Patrick Antonelli (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) had 10 points each.

Bluefield Individual Leaders
- Jeremiah Jenkins led all players with 22 points, putting up five assists and four rebounds while Trent Dunn had 18 points and four rebounds off the bench for the Rams.  
- Brandon Shields contributed 17 points, four rebounds and two assists as Omega Stitt went for 12 points and three assists.

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry shot 27-for-63 (42.9%) for the game with 12 three-pointers. The Wasps were a nearly-perfect 18-for-20 (90%) from the free throw line.
- Bluefield made 46.2 percent (30-of-65) of its shots, connecting on 13 attempts from long range. The Rams also went 18-for-20 at the charity stripe.
- BU held a 35-31 rebounding advantage but E&H took advantage of eight offensive rebounds to lead 12-3 on second-chance points.
- The Wasps outscored the Rams, 26-16, on points in the paint.
