Bluefield State Men’s Basketball Pulls Away From Emory & Henry, 119-109, Saturday Night

EMORY, Va. – The Bluefield State College Men's Basketball Team (8-12) 24 points in the final seven minutes of the game as it defeated Emory & Henry College (15-9) by a 119-109 score in a barnburner Saturday at the John Rutledge King Center.

How It Happened
- The two squads battled and forth through the opening half as the game had six ties and 14 lead changes. With Emory & Henry leading 26-25 with 10:28 in the first half, Bluefield State scored nine in a row to make it an eight-point game less than 90 seconds later. The Wasps cut into the lead on their way into the locker room, getting it to a 54-52 Big Blue lead at the break.
- Returning to action, BSC opened on a 16-7 run to give it the largest lead of the game, 70-59, with 15:58 left to play. Emory & Henry began to slowly chip away at the lead, finally tying things up at 103 apiece with 3:59 to play. Ten of the next 12 went the way of the Big Blues for a 113-105 lead as they were able to hold off the Wasps for the 119-109 final score.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Freshman forward Gabe Brown (Clintwood, Va.) paced the Wasps with 26 points, adding eight rebounds and two blocks while junior forward Kevin Grau Rodriguez (Tampa, Fla.) posted 22 points off the bench with four three-pointers.
- Freshman guard Jacob Morgan (Huntersville, N.C.) notched 21 points, four rebounds and two assists while sophomore guard Patrick Antonelli (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) had 12 points, 12 assists and five rebounds.
- Freshman forward Cade Looney (Grundy, Va.) went for 13 points and nine boards.

Bluefield State Individual Leaders
- Jordan Hinds scored a game-high 33 points on 12-for-17 shooting including 6-for-9 from long range. Marquez Cooper contributed 27 points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals.
- Kesean Robinsonposted 23 points, seven rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocks as Hirotaka Ohashi had a double-double with 10 points, 12 assists, four steals and two rebounds.
- Landry Palata scored eight points as he pulled down 11 boards and blocked five shots.

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry went 36-for-71 (50.7%) for the game with 11 three-pointers. The Wasps made 76.5 percent (26-of-34) of their free throws.
- Bluefield State shot 50.6 percent (43-for-85) with 13 triples. The Big Blues were 20-for-30 (66.7%) from the free throw line.
- BSC held a 45-40 rebounding advantage and outscored E&H by a 56-40 margin on points in the paint.
- The Big Blues also edged the Wasps on points off turnovers (18-12) and second-chance points (22-20).
