Carolina Univ. Men’s Basketball Escapes Emory & Henry, 73-69, Saturday Afternoon

EMORY, Va. – The Carolina University Men's Basketball Team (17-6) used a 20-7 run midway through the second half and held off a late rally by Emory & Henry College (16-10) for a 73-69 win Saturday afternoon. The contest also served as Senior Day for the Wasps, who honored Micah Banks (Simpsonville, S.C.) and student manager Jordan Grant prior to tipoff.

How It Happened
- The two squads battled through the opening 11 minutes of the game to a 20-17 Emory & Henry lead. Seven in a row by the Wasps later in the frame gave them a 27-22 advantage with 3:34 to go before halftime. The Bruins closed on a 9-4 run to take a 33-31 lead into the locker room.
- Returning to action, it remained a one-possession game until E&H scored seven in a row to go ahead, 49-42 with 15:14 left to play. Trailing 50-44, CU went on a 20-7 run to take a 64-57 lead with 6:04 remaining on the clock. The Wasps battled back to tie the contest at 67, but the Bruins answered by scoring six of the final eight points of the game to take the 73-69 win.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Freshman forward Gabe Brown (Clintwood, Va.) scored a team-high 16 points to go along with five rebounds while sophomore guard Patrick Antonelli (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) had 14 points, five rebounds and five assists.
- Banks contributed 11 points, five rebounds and two assists as junior guard Malcolm Morgan (Concord, N.C.) went for 11 points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Carolina Univ. Individual Leaders
- Kester Ofoegbu led all players with 26 points on 12-for-21 shooting with four rebounds, three assists and two steals as Micah Cooper scored 15 points, eight rebounds, six assists and five steals.
- Najeem Nawabi went for 13 points as Andrue Aguilera registered 11 points, seven rebounds and three assists.

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry hit 26-of-58 (44.8%) of its shots with eight three-pointers. The Wasps were 69.2 percent (9-for-13) from the free throw line.
- Carolina Univ. shot 45 percent (27-for-60) from the floor with 12 makes from long range. The Bruins also converted 7-for-13 (53.8%) of their foul shots.
- E&H held a 37-33 rebounding advantage and outscored CU, 32-30, on points in the paint.
