WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Emory & Henry College Men's Basketball Team got the 2022-23 season started with an exhibition against NCAA Division I exhibition against the University of North Carolina at Wilmington on Wednesday evening. The Seahawks won the contest 88-47.

How It Happened
- The opening minutes of the contest were closely contested as the score stood even at 9-9 heading into the first media timeout. The squads continued to trade baskets and the Seahawks held the narrow 23-21 lead at the under-eight minute media break. UNCW closed the half on a 24-4 scoring run to widen their advantage to 47-25 heading into the locker room.
- The Seahawks continued to extend their lead in the second half and the score stood at 70-33 at the midway point. UNCW cruised through the final ten minutes to an 88-47 victory.
Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Sophomore guard/forward Gabe Brown (Clintwood, Va.) led the Wasps with 13 points, three rebounds and a steal. Freshman guard/forward Jacob Dar (Omaha, Neb.) contributed eight points, a team-high eight rebounds, two steals and a block off the bench in his Wasps debut.
- Freshman forward Marshall Klug (Greensboro, N.C.) had seven points, four rebounds and a steal while sophomore forward Jake Moynihan (Muncie, Ind.) added seven points, two rebounds and an assist.
UNC Wilmington Individual Leaders
- Trazarien White and Maleeck Harden-Hayes each had 16 points to lead the scoring effort for the Seahawks. Jamarii Thomas also contributed 15 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals.
- Eric Van Der Heijden registered eight points, four rebounds, an assist and a block for UNCW in the victory.
A Deeper Look
- UNCW shot 45.1 percent (32-for-71) from the field while Emory & Henry made 14-of-43 (32.6%) of their shots. The Seahawks hit nine three-pointers in the contest, compared to four for the Wasps.
- Wilmington held a 48-27 rebounding advantage and a 40-20 lead on points in the paint.
