Emory & Henry Men’s Basketball Handles Bluefield, 86-71, Wednesday Afternoon At Home

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Men's Basketball Team (3-1, 0-0 SAC) defeated Bluefield University (3-4, 2-4 AAC) in non-conference action on Wednesday afternoon. The Wasps earned the win by an 86-71 margin.

How It Happened
- The Rams jumped out to an early lead, as they held a narrow 9-4 lead at the first media timeout. The Wasps would battle back to even things up at 13-13 but once again Bluefield would push their advantage back out to 24-18. E&H caught fire in the later stages of the opening half and utilized a 19-3 run en route to a 47-33 halftime lead. 
- The Wasps came out of the halftime break and picked up where they left off, as they increased the lead to 66-46 with 13:50 to play. The Rams were able to narrow the deficit to as few as 13 in the second stanza, but the home team was able to cruise to an 86-71 victory. 

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
-Sophomore guard Gabe Brown (Clintwood, Va.) led the Wasps with 16 points, five rebounds and an assist. Sophomore forward Jake Moynihan (Muncie, Ind.) added 12 points and six rebounds off the bench.
- Fifth-year guard Micah Banks (Simpsonville, S.C.) had 12 points, four rebounds and three assists while sophomore forward Cade Looney (Grundy, Va.) contributed ten points, two rebounds, two steals, an assist and a block.

Bluefield Individual Leaders
- Elijah White was the leading scorer for the Rams with 13 points, one rebound and one assist while teammate McKinley Mann added 12 points, nine rebounds and an assist.
- Volante Carroll had a game-high 12 rebounds, two points and a block before fouling out of the game.

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry shot 51.7 percent (30-for-58) from the field while Bluefield made 27-of-64 (42.2%) of their shots. The Wasps team hit 11 three-pointers in the contest, compared to ten for the Rams.
- E&H held a 38-33 rebounding advantage and outscored the visitors by a 34-24 margin in points in the paint.
- The Wasps also assisted on 18 of their made baskets opposed to just eight helpers for the visiting team.

- Emory & Henry hits the road this weekend for a two-game trip to Puerto Rico. Game one against Caribbean University-Bayamon is Sunday with tip-off scheduled for 10:00 a.m.
