Limestone Men's Basketball Outlasts Emory & Henry, 102-98, In SAC Overtime Thriller Saturday Afternoon

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Men's Basketball Team (5-2, 0-1 SAC) dropped an overtime thriller to Limestone University (3-4, 1-0 SAC) on Saturday evening. This game marked the first-ever contest in South Atlantic Conference play for the Wasps. The visiting Saints took the win by a 102-98 score.

How It Happened
- Both squads got out of the gates with hot shooting and the Saints held an early 11-8 lead at the first media timeout. The Wasps continued to push the tempo and were able to edge in front by a 21-18 score with 11 minutes to play in the opening half. Limestone fought back to draw even at 39-39, but E&H went into the halftime break with a slim 45-43 advantage.
- The two teams picked up right where they left off in the second half, as they traded baskets throughout the second stanza. Limestone utilized a 7-0 run to take a 60-52 lead and force a Wasp timeout. E&H battled and drew back within just two points, but once again the visitors from Gaffney, S.C. were able to stretch their advantage to 76-68 with 7:26 to play. The Saints maintained their lead and the E&H deficit stood at 87-80 at the two-minute mark. A furious Wasps rally, including a game-tying three-pointer from Jacob Morgan (Huntersville, N.C.) with 34 seconds left in regulation, sent the game into overtime.
- Limestone took the early lead in the extra period but E&H responded with back-to-back buckets to trim the Saints' lead to just one. The visitors held the advantage at the charity stripe in overtime, as they made 7-8 from the free throw line compared to just 3-4 for the Wasps. That margin would be the difference, as the Saints took the win by the 102-98 final score. 

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
-Sophomore forward Jake Moynihan (Muncie, Ind.) posted a double-double with a career-high 24 points and 10 rebounds off the bench. Senior guard Malcolm Morgan (Concord, N.C.) added 14 points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals.
- Sophomore guard Jalen Leftwich (Lynchburg, Va.) had 13 points, five rebounds and four assists while sophomore forward Cade Looney (Grundy, Va.) contributed 11 points, four rebounds, two steals, and two assists. 

Limestone Individual Leaders
- Richard Nunez led the scoring for Limestone with 26 points, six rebounds, one assist and one steal. Ben Gahlert had a double-double with 17 points, ten rebounds and two steals. 
- Zeb Graham contributed 16 points, five rebounds, four steals and three assists in the win for the Saints. 

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry shot 51.7 percent (31-for-60) from the field while Limestone made 36-of-74 (48.6%) of their shots. The Wasps team hit seven three-pointers in the contest, compared to ten for the Saints.
- E&H held a 44-33 rebounding advantage and outscored the visitors by a 46-42 margin in points in the paint.
- The Saints forced 23 turnovers and converted those miscues into 31 points, compared to just 12 forced turnovers and 12 points for the Wasps.
