Emory & Henry Men’s Basketball Pulls Away From Mars Hill, 87-67, Wednesday At Home

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Men's Basketball Team (9-4, 2-3 SAC) took down Mars Hill University (3-9, 0-4 SAC) in South Atlantic Conference play on Wednesday evening. The Wasps dispatched the visiting Lions by an 87-67 score.

How It Happened
- The Wasps started the game on the front foot, as a pair of three-point buckets led to an 8-0 advantage at the first media timeout. The visitors responded through the next four minutes of play, drawing within three points at 12-9. The two squads continued to trade made baskets throughout the remainder of the opening half and E&H held the narrow 33-27 lead at the halftime break.
- E&H came out of the break with more good shooting as they pushed the lead to 55-44 with just under 12 minutes remaining. Both teams added ten points each in the next five minutes of play to run the score to 65-54 with 7:37 on the clock. The Wasps poured it on in the latter stages of the second stanza to pull away for an 87-67 victory. 

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Sophomore guard Gabe Brown (Clintwood, Va.) led the offensive attack with 25 points, six rebounds and a steal while fellow sophomore Jake Moynihan (Muncie, Ind.) added 11 points, eight rebounds and an assist.
- Sophomore guard Jalen Leftwich (Lynchburg, Va.) had 11 points, four assists and a rebound while sophomore forward Cade Looney (Grundy, Va.) posted eight points, six rebounds, an assist and a steal in the win.

Mars Hill Individual Leaders
- Rajuan Conner had ten points and nine rebounds to pace the Lions while Kory Davis added eight points, five assists, two rebounds and two steals.
- Prosper Obidiebube had ten points and two rebounds for the visitors in the losing effort.

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry shot 50 percent (31-for-62) from the field while Mars Hill made 23-of-55 (41.8%) of their shots. The Wasps hit seven three-point baskets, compared to six for the Lions in the contest.
- The Wasps outrebounded the visitors by a 39-29 margin and held a massive 48-26 advantage on points in the paint.
