Lenoir-Rhyne Men’s Basketball Downs Emory & Henry, 89-72, Saturday In SAC Play

HICKORY, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne University Men's Basketball Team (8-7, 3-4 SAC) defeated Emory & Henry College (10-6, 2-5 SAC) in South Atlantic Conference action on Saturday afternoon. The Bears took the Wasps by an 89-72 score.

How It Happened
- Both teams got off to hot shooting starts and the score stood at 17-15 in favor of the Bears with 13:27 remaining in the opening half. The pace slowed through the middle of the frame and LR utilized a 10-0 run to push the lead to 34-21 with just over five minutes to play. The Bears continued to knock down shots and took a 48-33 advantage into the halftime break.
- LR increased its lead to as many as 25 in the early part of the second half, as the Bears held a 71-46 advantage with 10:49 on the clock. The Wasps would respond with a 13-0 run of their own over the next three and a half minutes of play to reduce the margin to just 12 at 71-59. The Bears settled in down the stretch and took the win by the 89-72 scoreline.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Sophomore guard Gabe Brown (Clintwood, Va.) led the offense with 19 points, three rebounds, a steal and an assist while sophomore guard Jalen Leftwich (Lynchburg, Va.) had 16 points, six assists, two steals and a rebound.
- Junior guard Patrick Antonelli (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) posted 11 points, eight assists, seven boards and two steals in the losing effort.

Lenoir-Rhyne Individual Leaders
- L.J. McCoy had a game-high 25 points, two rebounds, an assist and a block. T.J. Nesmith posted a double-double with 24 points, 11 rebounds, two blocks and a steal.
- Jalen Johnson contributed 13 points, nine assists, a rebound and a steal.

A Deeper Look
- Lenoir-Rhyne shot 54.4 percent (31-for-57) from the field while Emory & Henry made 27-of-57 (47.7%) of their shots. The home team knocked down eight shots from beyond the three-point arc, while the visitors made just five of their 22 attempts (22.7%).
- The Bears dominated the glass with 38 boards compared to just 23 for the Wasps.
- The two teams were even with 42 points in the paint and LR had 23 points off turnovers to just 17 for E&H.

- Emory & Henry hits the road once again on Wednesday to take on nearby South Atlantic Conference rival the University of Virginia's College at Wise. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m., as the second game of a doubleheader with the women's team.
