UVA Wise Men’s Basketball Pulls Away From Emory & Henry, 106-83, Wednesday Night

WISE, Va. – The University of Virginia's College at Wise Men's Basketball Team (10-7, 3-5 SAC) defeated Emory & Henry College (10-7, 2-6 SAC) in South Atlantic Conference rivalry action on Wednesday evening. The Cavaliers defeated the Wasps by a 106-83 score.

How It Happened
- The Wasps struck first on a three-point bucket from junior guard Patrick Antonelli (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) and ran out to a 13-8 advantage with five minutes elapsed in the first half. The Cavaliers would respond and took a 23-20 lead at the under eight-minute media timeout. UVA Wise pushed the margin to as many as eight, but E&H closed the half with four consecutive points to draw within 41-37 at the break.
- The Cavaliers continued to knock down buckets out of the halftime break and pushed their lead back out to ten at 57-47 with just under 15 minutes remaining. UVA Wise utilized the three-point line to their advantage, knocking down five of their first six attempts in the second stanza and increasing the margin to 77-65 at the eight-minute mark. The Wasps battled down the stretch, but it was not enough as the Cavaliers rolled to the 106-83 win.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Sophomore guard Gabe Brown (Clintwood, Va.) led the offense with 25 points, five rebounds, two blocks and an assist. Sophomore guard Jalen Leftwich (Lynchburg, Va.) had 14 points, five helpers and four boards.
- Freshman guard Christian Drummer (Lawrenceville, Ga.) posted a career-high 11 points and three rebounds and Antonelli stuffed the stat sheet with 11 points, seven boards, seven assists and a steal.

UVA Wise Individual Leaders
- Luke Lawson had a game-high 36 points, five rebounds, three blocks, three steals and an assist. Bradley Dean contributed 28 points, eight assists, five boards and four steals.
- Rron Ukaj was the only other Cavalier with double digits, as he had ten points and three rebounds.

A Deeper Look
- UVA Wise shot 60.9 percent (39-for-64) from the field while Emory & Henry made 32-of-70 (45.7%) of their shots. The home team was an astounding 14-19 (73.7&) from beyond the three-point arc, while the Wasps made just six of their 22 attempts (27.3%).
- The Wasps held the narrow 33 to 31 advantage on the boards and outscored the Cavaliers 50-42 in the paint.
- Wise forced 15 turnovers and converted those mistakes into 23 points in comparison to E&H's 11 forced turnovers and ten points off of giveaways.
