Chowan Defeats Emory & Henry Men's Basketball, 104-80, In Conference Challenge Finale Sunday

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Men's Basketball Team (0-2, 0-0 SAC) wrapped up the South Atlantic Conference/Conference Carolinas Challenge with a 104-80 loss to Chowan University (2-0, 0-0 Carolinas) on Sunday afternoon.

How It Happened
- The Hawks got off on the front foot as they knocked down shot after shot to take a 27-16 lead at the under 12 minute media timeout. Chowan continued their hot shooting throughout the opening stanza as they utilized ten made shots from behind the three-point line to run out to a 54-40 halftime lead. Freshman guard Keishawn Hampton (Buford, Ga.) led the Wasps in the first, as he was a perfect 3-3 from the field for eight points.
- Chowan picked up where it left off to begin the second half, pushing its lead out to as many as 36 with 10:39 remaining in the game. The Wasps made a rally late in the second half, but once again the visitors from Murfreesboro were up to the task as they maintained the lead for 38:24 of the game and took the win by the 104-80 final score. 

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Junior forward Jake Moynihan (Muncie, Ind.) led E&H with 16 points and one board while Hampton finished with 11 points, four assists and a pair of rebounds. 
- Junior forward Cade Looney (Grundy, Va.) had 11 points, six rebounds and a pair of assists. Sophomore forward Marshall Klug (Greensboro, N.C.) added 11 points, three rebounds and a steal. 

Chowan Individual Leaders
- Daylan Askew led all scorers with 19 points, six assists and four rebounds. Skyler Davies posted 17 points, one assist and a rebound of his own.
- Preston Le Gassick contributed 15 points, four helpers and a rebound while Damerius Summers had 13 points, five rebounds and an assist.

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry shot 47.5 percent (29-for-61) from the field while Chowan made 38-of-61 (62.3%) of their shots. The Wasps knocked down ten shots (41.7%) from the three-point arc, but it was no match for the 21 (56.8%) for the Hawks.
- The Hawks outrebounded the Wasps by a 31-27 margin, but E&H outscored Chowan 32-26 on points in the paint.

- Emory & Henry completes its three-game, season-opening homestand on Thursday, November 16 when it plays host to the Tornado of King (Tenn.) University for a border showdown. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. from the John Rutledge King Center.
