Barry Men’s Basketball Defeats Emory & Henry, 95-83, In Charleston Cup Classic

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Emory & Henry College Men's Basketball Team (1-3) ran out to a halftime lead, but could not hold off a second-half charge from Barry University (3-1) in the Charleston Cup Classic Saturday afternoon. The Buccaneers overcame an eight-point halftime deficit to defeat the Wasps 95-83.

How It Happened
- The teams went back and forth through the early stages of the opening half and the Buccaneers held a narrow 22-21 advantage at the under 12-minute media timeout. The Wasps would come alive with just under nine minutes remaining in the first, as they went on a 14-0 run over the following 4:25 that was capped off by a bucket from junior guard Jalen Leftwich (Lynchburg, Va.) to give E&H a 43-29 lead. Barry would trim into the deficit before the break and the Wasps held onto a 47-39 margin heading into halftime. 
- The Buccaneers battled back to start the second frame and managed to draw the score even at 60-60 at the midpoint of the half. The next six minutes belonged to Barry as they went on a 17-5 scoring run to jump ahead and take a double-digit lead. The Buccaneers pushed their lead out to as many as 16 and cruised to the 95-83 victory. 

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Leftwich led the offensive charge for E&H with 20 points, four assists, three rebounds and a block while sophomore forward Jacob Dar (Omaha, Neb.) added 17 points, seven boards and a steal. 
- Sophomore forward Marshall Klug (Greensboro, N.C.) posted 11 points, three rebounds, a pair of helpers and a steal. Junior forward Cade Looney (Grundy, Va.) finished with nine points, three rebounds, one assist and a blocked shot.

Barry Individual Leaders
- Nick Anderson paced the Buccaneers with 20 points, two rebounds and a pair of steals while Malik Stanley recorded 18 points, four assists, three rebounds and two steals.
- James Montgomery had a double-double with 12 points, 15 rebounds and four assists. Adren Roberts contributed 17 points, seven rebounds, two assists and two steals.

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry shot 42.6 percent (29-for-68) from the field while Barry made 24-of-61 (39.3%) of their shots. The Wasps knocked down ten shots (33.3%) from the three-point arc, compared to nine for the Buccaneers (42.9%).
- The Wasps outrebounded Barry by a 45-41 margin and held a 36-28 advantage on points in the paint.
- Barry capitalized on E&H miscues as they forced 22 turnovers and converted them into 31 points. The Buccaneers also held a 30-10 advantage on fastbreak points.
