Emory & Henry Men’s Basketball Outlasts Bluefield State, 95-88, Wednesday Afternoon

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Men's Basketball Team (2-3) earned its second victory in three games on Wednesday afternoon, defeating Bluefield State University (1-3) by a 95-88 margin on the road. The Wasps saw five players reach double figures in scoring on their way to the win.

How It Happened
- The two squads traded baskets to a 7-7 tie at the 15:43 mark of the opening half but seven in a row by E&H gave them the first sizable lead of the contest. The Wasps pushed their advantage to 19-9 with 11:56 on the clock before a 17-6 run by the Big Blues put them up by a 26-25 margin with less than nine minutes to go before the break. The contest was within two possessions each way for the remainder of the half with Emory & Henry going into the locker room with a 46-43 lead.
- The Wasps opened the second half on a 22-10 run to extend their advantage to 68-53 with 13:25 to play. Trailing by 11 (85-74) at the 5:19 mark, BSU put together a 14-6 run to close the gap to 91-88 with 34 seconds remaining. Emory & Henry got four free throws from junior forward Gabe Brown (Clintwood, Va.) in the final 20 ticks to hold off the Big Blues for the 95-88 victory.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Brown finished the game with 19 points and six rebounds while junior forward Jake Moynihan (Muncie, Ind.) had a game-high 24 points on 8-for-12 shooting and eight rebounds.
- Junior forward Cade Looney (Grundy, Va.) went for 20 points, seven rebounds and two blocks as junior guard Jalen Leftwich (Lynchburg, Va.) posted 10 points, eight boards and eight assists.
- Sophomore guard Jacob Dar (Omaha, Neb.) went for 10 points and seven rebounds off the bench with sophomore forward Marshall Klug (Greensboro, N.C.) tacking on eight points, three rebounds and two assists.

Bluefield State Individual Leaders
- The Big Blue saw six players score at least 10 points including all five starters. Nduka Ogwu led the team with 17 points, five rebounds and two blocks while Ja'Mere Redus tallied 14 points and three assists.
- Jordan Hinds posted 16 points, six rebounds and four steals as Rylan Bowens, Jaylen Bernard and Clay Baldwin each contributed 12 points.

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry shot 49.3 percent (33-of-67) for the game, connecting on seven three-pointers. The Wasps were an efficient 22-of-26 (84.6%) from the free throw line.
- Bluefield State made 31-of-69 (44.9%) of its shots from the floor, with seven makes from long distance. The Big Blue hit 67.9 percent (19-of-28) of their shots from the stripe.
- E&H held a 48-31 rebounding advantage and used 18 offensive boards to score 24 second-chance points. The Wasps edged the Big Blue 48-40 on points in the paint.
