Emory & Henry Men's Basketball Drops 75-65 Decision to Lenoir-Rhyne In SAC Play Saturday

HICKORY, N.C. – The Emory & Henry College Men's Basketball Team (2-6, 0-2 SAC) could not overcome a halftime deficit as it fell to Lenoir-Rhyne University (5-3, 1-1 SAC) in South Atlantic Conference play Saturday evening. The Bears had four different players in double digits as they defeated the Wasps 75-65.

How It Happened
- The Wasps were first on the board in the opening stages as they took an early 12-4 lead with 16:31 remaining. E&H held the lead at 21-15, but LR responded with a 12-1 run to jump ahead with just under five minutes left in the opening frame. The two teams traded buckets down the stretch of the first half and the Bears maintained a 36-30 margin heading into the halftime break.
- LR scored the first seven points to open the second half and pushed its lead out to as many as 16 with 10:24 on the clock. The Bears held off multiple Wasp rallies and kept the visitors at bay, as E&H could not get within striking distance and LR held on for the 75-65 victory. 

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Junior forward Cade Looney (Grundy, Va.) led E&H with a double-double of 20 points, 11 rebounds and an assist while junior guard Gabe Brown (Clintwood, Va.) added 12 points, five boards, a steal and a blocked shot.
- Junior guard Kevin Taylor (Acworth, Ga.) had nine points, two rebounds and a helper off of the bench in his first game in a Wasp uniform. Junior forward Jake Moynihan (Muncie, Ind.) contributed seven points, five rebounds and a blocked shot.

Lenoir-Rhyne Individual Leaders
- Nas Tyson paced the Bears with 18 points, five rebounds and four assists while Tay Smith had 18 points, six rebounds, a pair of assists and a pair of steals.
- Chase Mebane posted 14 points, four rebounds, a pair of assists and a blocked shot. Jaquias Franklin chipped in with 11 points, five assists and four rebounds.

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry shot 34.3 percent (24-for-70) from the field while Lenoir-Rhyne knocked down 30-of-64 (46.9%) of their shots. The Wasps made seven shots (22.6%) from the three-point arc, compared to six for the Bears (31.6%).
- The Wasps outrebounded the Bears by a 46-38 margin but LR held a 36-32 advantage on points in the paint.
- The Wasps went 10-for-15 (66.7%) from the charity stripe while the Bears were 9-for-13 (69.2%).

- Emory & Henry makes the trip to Charlotte, North Carolina on Monday, December 11 for non-conference action against the Warriors of Southern Wesleyan University. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:15 p.m. from the Spectrum Center, home of the NBA's Charlotte Hornets.
