Emory & Henry Men’s Basketball Rolls To 73-53 Victory Over Southern Wesleyan In Queen City Showdown

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Emory & Henry College Men's Basketball Team (3-6) ran out to a comfortable 21-point halftime lead and cruised to a win over Southern Wesleyan University (1-9) in non-conference play Monday afternoon. The game was played at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte, N.C., home of the NBA's Charlotte Hornets.

How It Happened
- The two teams went back and forth to begin the game and the Wasps clung on to a narrow 12-11 lead with 14:24 remaining in the opening half. E&H would then go on a 23-2 run to blow the game open and establish a comfortable margin. The Wasps continued to pour it on and a made three-point jumper from freshman guard Jackson Crawford (Daleville, Va.) just before the halftime buzzer made the score 43-22 heading into the break.
- Things evened out through the beginning stages of the second half and both teams traded buckets, but the Warriors could not cut into the deficit and E&H maintained a 61-40 advantage with 9:16 remaining on the clock. The Wasps shut down any attempts by Southern Wesleyan to cut into the margin and E&H rolled to the 73-53 win.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Junior forward Jake Moynihan (Muncie, Ind.) led the Wasps with 14 points, six rebounds, one steal and an assist while junior guard Jalen Leftwich (Lynchburg, Va.) added ten points, a game-high five assists, four boards and a steal off of the bench. Junior guard Gabe Brown (Clintwood, Va.) posted ten points, one rebound and an assist.
- Sophomore forward Marshall Klug (Greensboro, N.C.) chipped in with eight points, seven rebounds, a pair of assists, one block and a steal. Junior guard Kevin Taylor (Acworth, Ga.) contributed seven points, four rebounds, two steals and a helper in the winning effort.

Southern Wesleyan Individual Leaders
- Griffin Effenberger recorded 11 points, four rebounds and four assists to go along with Jamal Edmondson's 11 points, four rebounds and a steal.
- Che Smith posted a team-high seven rebounds, five points, three steals and a pair of helpers.

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry made exactly half (30-for-60) of its shots from the field while Southern Wesleyan knocked down just 21-of-54 (38.9%) of their shots. The Wasps made seven shots (25.9%) from the three-point arc, compared to five for the Warriors (27.8%).
- The Wasps outrebounded SWU by a 39-32 margin and held a 40-24 advantage on points in the paint.
- Neither team shot well from the free throw line as the Wasps went 6-for-15 (40.0%) from the charity stripe while the Warriors were 6-for-11 (54.5%).
