Carson-Newman Men's Basketball Pulls Away From Emory & Henry For 105-77 SAC Win Wednesday Evening

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman University Men's Basketball Team (11-3, 4-2 SAC) utilized a monster second half to pull away from Emory & Henry College (4-11, 1-6 SAC) in South Atlantic Conference action Wednesday night. The Eagles scored 67 points in the second stanza as they rolled to a 105-77 victory.

How It Happened
- The first half was tight throughout and involved three ties and six lead changes. The teams traded buckets early on and a made layup from sophomore forward Marshall Klug (Greensboro, N.C.) pushed the Wasps lead out to 19-14 at the 13:08 mark. E&H pushed its lead out to its largest of the game at 24-17 on a three-point basket from sophomore guard Omari Curley (Prince George, Va.), but Carson-Newman responded with a 10-0 run over the next 3:21 of game play to take the lead 27-24. The Eagles led the remainder of the half and took a narrow 38-37 advantage into halftime.
- The game was tight through the beginning stages of the second half and E&H clung to a one-point margin at 46-45 with 16:37 to play. The Eagles would go on another run, this one of the 15-2 variety, to open up a comfortable double-digit lead at the under 12 minute media timeout. Carson-Newman caught fire through the middle stages of the second half, scoring 29 of the following 41 points to balloon its advantage out to a game-high 29 points. The Eagles continued to pour it on as they cruised to the 105-77 SAC win. 

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Junior forward Cade Looney (Grundy, Va.) led the Wasps with 14 points, three rebounds, one assist, one blocked shot and a steal. Junior guard Gabe Brown (Clintwood, Va.) added 13 points, five boards, a pair of assists and a pair of blocked shots.
- Junior guard Jalen Leftwich (Lynchburg, Va.) posted 13 points, four assists, one rebound, one blocked shot and a steal. Freshman guard Keishawn Hampton (Buford, Ga.) tied his career high with 11 points, four helpers, three rebounds and a steal.

Carson-Newman Individual Leaders
- The Eagles were led by Jack Browder who contributed 22 points, eight rebounds and two assists while reigning SAC Player of the Week Nick Brenegan added 20 points, six assists, four rebounds and a pair of steals.
- Ben Beeker posted 22 points, six rebounds and five helpers off of the bench while Trey Hubbard had 21 points, eight assists, four rebounds and a pair of steals.

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry shot 47.5 percent (28-for-59) for the game with six made three-pointers (33.3%). The Wasps went 15-for-16 (93.8%) at the free throw line.
- Carson-Newman hit 38-of-65 (58.5%) of its field goal attempts, connecting on nine triples (45.0%). The Eagles hit 76.9 percent (20-of-26) of their free throws.
- CN held a large 38-24 rebounding margin and posted a staggering 58-32 advantage on points in the paint.
- The Eagles utilized the fast break to their advantage, as they outscored the Wasps 21-0.
