Emory & Henry Men's Basketball Drops Road Contest to Anderson (S.C.) Saturday Afternoon

ANDERSON, S.C. – The Emory & Henry Men's Basketball Team (4-13, 1-8 SAC) fell in South Atlantic Conference play Saturday afternoon as the Wasps were defeated by Anderson (S.C.) University (8-8, 3-5 SAC). The Trojans had six different scorers in double figures and rolled to a 105-89 victory.

How It Happened
- The two teams went back and forth to begin the opening half and the Wasps clung to a 10-9 lead at the first media timeout. The Trojans answered with a 19-5 run over the following seven minutes to establish a 28-15 advantage and force an E&H timeout. AU was active defensively in the first stanza, forcing nine Wasp turnovers which they converted into 14 points. Anderson increased its lead to as many as 19 in the half, but a made three-point basket at the buzzer from junior guard Jalen Leftwich (Lynchburg, Va.) managed to trim the deficit to 53-40 at the halftime break.
- E&H came out of the locker room on fire, scoring the first nine points of the second frame to draw within just four at 53-49. Anderson would respond with eight of the next ten points to push the margin back out to double digits. The squads traded baskets through the middle of the second half and the Trojans held a 77-64 advantage with just under eight minutes to play. Another run from the Trojans, this one of a 14-7 variety, gave the home team a 20-point lead with 4:22 on the clock. The Wasps could not come up with defensive stops all afternoon and the Trojans took the win 105-89. 

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Sophomore forward Jacob Dar (Omaha, Neb.) paced the offensive attack for the Wasps for the second straight game with 20 points and three rebounds off of the bench. Leftwich added 20 points, five rebounds, one assist and a steal while junior forward Cade Looney (Grundy, Va.) had 15 points, six boards and three assists.
- Sophomore forward Marshall Klug (Greensboro, N.C.) contributed eight points, four rebounds and an assist. Junior guard Gabe Brown (Clintwood, Va.) finished with eight points, four rebounds, a pair of steals and an assist.

Anderson (S.C.) Individual Leaders
- Austin Webb led the Trojans with a game-high 23 points, eight rebounds, two assists and a pair of steals off of the bench. Mack Burgett had 21 points, nine rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocked shots.
- Garrett Denbow posted 13 points, three rebounds and an assist while brother Luke Denbow added 13 points, four helpers and three rebounds. 

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry shot 50.0 percent (33-for-66) for the game with five made three-pointers (26.3%). The Wasps went 18-for-26 (69.2%) at the free throw line.
- Anderson hit 38-of-71 (53.5%) of its field goal attempts, connecting on ten triples (40.0%). The Trojans knocked down 79.2 percent (19-of-24) of their free throws.
- The teams were even with 36 rebounds each, but the Trojans assisted on 23 of their made field goals compared to just eight for the Wasps.
- AU forced 15 E&H turnovers which they converted into 21 points while the Wasps forced eight miscues and scored just eight points off of them.
- The home team capitalized on its fast break opportunities, outscoring the visitors by a massive 24-2 margin. The bench for the Trojans also made its presence felt, posting a 44-30 advantage over the Wasps.

- Emory & Henry returns home on Wednesday, January 24 to take on Carson-Newman University. Game time is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. as the first game of a doubleheader with the women's team.
