Wingate Men's Basketball Holds Off Emory & Henry, 90-78, Saturday Afternoon

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Men's Basketball Team (5-16, 2-11 SAC) fell in South Atlantic Conference play Saturday afternoon to conference leader Wingate University (16-5, 11-2 SAC). The Bulldogs defeated the Wasps by a 90-78 margin.

How It Happened
- The Bulldogs came ready to play as they ran out to an early 17-6 advantage after just under six minutes elapsed in the first half. E&H responded with 11 straight points to tie things up at the 9:42 mark. Sophomore forward Jacob Dar (Omaha, Neb.) gave the Wasps their first lead of the game on a made layup to make it a 21-20 game, but Wingate woke up late in the half and ballooned their lead out to its largest of the contest at 45-30. Sophomore forward Marshall Klug (Greensboro, N.C.) knocked down a shot from behind the three-point arc just before the break to trim the deficit to 12 heading into the locker room.
- The second half began evenly contested and Klug drained a pair of shots from distance to pull the Wasps within four at 53-49 with 15:08 on the clock. The Bulldogs then went on a 12-4 run over the next three and a half minutes to increase the margin back out to double digits. Wingate kept E&H at arm's length throughout the remainder of the half and earned the win by a 90-78 final.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Dar paced the Wasps once more as he was in double-digits scoring for the sixth consecutive game, finishing with a double-double of a career-high 32 points, 10 rebounds, a pair of blocked shots and a steal. Klug posted 18 points, seven rebounds, two assists and a steal.
- Junior forward Jake Moynihan (Muncie, Ind.) was the other Wasp with double figures scoring as he contributed ten points, five rebounds, one assist and a steal. 

Wingate Individual Leaders
- Josh Massey led the Bulldogs with 25 points, six rebounds, four assists and a blocked shot while Corbin Pack added 20 points, three boards, one assist and a blocked shot off of the bench. 
- Kendall Taylor had 19 points, eight rebounds, two assists, two steals and a blocked shot. Donell Nixon posted 14 points, eight assists, five rebounds and three steals in the win.

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry shot 40.9 percent (27-for-66) for the game with nine made three-pointers (27.3%). The Wasps went 15-for-19 (78.9%) at the free throw line.
- Wingate converted 28-of-62 (45.2%) of its field goal attempts, connecting on 13 triples for 56.5% from behind the three-point stripe. The Bulldogs knocked down 72.4 percent (21-of-29) of their free throws.
- The Wasps crashed the glass, out rebounding the visiting team by a 41-37 margin, including a 15-10 advantage on second chance points.
- E&H committed 13 turnovers compared to just eight for the Bulldogs. Wingate converted those mistakes into 18 points.
