Lenoir-Rhyne Men’s Basketball Pulls Away From Emory & Henry, 83-73, Saturday

EMORY, Va. - The Lenoir-Rhyne University Men's Basketball Team (14-13, 9-10 SAC) used an 11-3 run late in the second half to pull away from Emory & Henry College (5-21, 2-16 SAC) Saturday in a South Atlantic Conference matchup. The Bears picked up the victory by an 83-73 scoreline.

The game also served as Senior Day for the Wasps who honored Patrick Antonelli (Mount Pleasant, S.C.), Evan Burton (Olive Branch, Miss.), Cade Looney (Grundy, Va.) and Russ Wells (Isle of Wight, Va.) prior to tipoff.

How It Happened
- E&H scored the first four points of the game but LR answered with nine in a row to take a 9-6 lead at the 16:44 mark of the opening half. Later in the period, the Wasps hit three threes in a row to go ahead, 17-12, with 12:38 on the clock. The two squads continued to trade baskets through the next seven minutes with Emory & Henry holding a 33-26 advantage. The Bears closed the final four minutes on a 14-7 run to tie the contest, 40-40, at the intermission.
- Returning to action, the Wasps and Bears went shot for shot for the opening five-and-a-half minutes. Emory & Henry put up the next eight to lead, 64-55, with 11:39 to go, its largest lead of the game. LR then went on an 11-2 run to tie things up at 66 with 8:07 on the clock. The Bears continued their run out to 18-4 as they built a 73-68 advantage with less than five minutes to play. Lenoir-Rhyne continued to pull away, finishing with 10 of the game's final 12 points to earn the 83-73 victory.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Sophomore forward Jacob Dar (Omaha, Neb.) reached the 20-point plateau again, adding nine rebounds while sophomore forward Marshall Klug (Greensboro, N.C.) added 14 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals.
- Junior guard Gabe Brown (Clintwood, Va.) posted 13 points, two rebounds and two blocks as junior guard Jalen Leftwich (Lynchburg, Va.) notched seven points and four assists.

Lenoir-Rhyne Individual Leaders
- Jaquias Franklin paced the Bears with 20 points, three rebounds and three assists with Chase Mebane close behind with 17 points and eight boards
- Cooper Fowler contributed 13 points, eight rebounds and six assists while Tay Smith finished with nine points, six rebounds and two assists.

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry shot 43.1 percent (25-for-58) for the game with 10 three-pointers. The Wasps went 13-for-15 (86.7%) at the free throw line.
- Lenoir-Rhyne made 31-of-55 (56.4%) of its attempts from the field, connecting on seven from beyond the arc. The Bears nearly perfect at the line, going 14-of-15 (93.3%).
- LR held a 30-26 rebounding advantage but E&H's eight offensive rebounds translated to an 11-5 lead on second-chance points.
- The Bears posted a 44-22 lead on points in the paint.
