Emory & Henry Men’s Basketball Wraps Up Season With 85-65 Loss At Catawba

SALISBURY, N.C. – The Emory & Henry College Men's Basketball Team (5-23, 2-18 SAC) fell in its final game of the 2023-24 season to Catawba College (19-5, 16-4 SAC) Saturday afternoon in South Atlantic Conference play. The Catawba Indians overcame a six-point halftime deficit to take the victory by a 85-65 final score.

How It Happened
- The Wasps started the game on the front foot as a layup from junior guard Jalen Leftwich (Lynchburg, Va.) gave them the 13-9 advantage at the first media timeout. E&H continued to push the pace with junior forward Jake Moynihan (Muncie, Ind.) knocking down a three-point bucket to push the lead out to nine at 27-18 with 9:26 remaining in the opening half. The Catawba Indians responded with a 14-2 run over the following five minutes of play to take their first lead of the afternoon 32-29. Emory & Henry would not go away and finished the half on a 9-0 rally to take the 38-32 lead into the locker room at halftime.
- Catawba began the second stanza scoring 16 of the first 20 points to retake the lead 48-42 at the 14:38 mark. The Catawba Indians dominated the middle stages of the half to expand their advantage out to 74-57 with just over four minutes to play. It was all Catawba through the remainder of the game as they took the 85-65 win.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Sophomore forward Jacob Dar (Omaha, Neb.) led the Wasps with a double-double of 17 points, 13 rebounds and a pair of assists. Leftwich finished with 10 points, five assists, four rebounds and a steal.
- Sophomore forward Marshall Klug (Greensboro, N.C.) went for 13 points, five rebounds, two assists, one steal and a blocked shot while Moynihan had 10 points.

Catawba Individual Leaders
- Kris Robinson led the Catawba Indians with 13 points and two rebounds while Peyton Gerald had 12 points, five rebounds, two blocked shots and a steal off of the bench.
- Kaleb Wallace, O'Mazeon Tinsley and Montraivis White all finished with 10 points for the home team.

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry shot 38.8 percent (26-for-67) for the game with 12 made three-pointers (36.4%). The Wasps went 14-for-18 (77.8%) at the free throw line.
- Catawba converted 32-of-62 (51.6%) of its field goal attempts, connecting on 14 triples for 43.8% from behind the three-point stripe. The Catawba Indians knocked down 87.5 percent (14-of-16) of their free throws.
- The home team outscored the Wasps by a 40-22 margin in the paint and 16-4 on the fastbreak.
- Catawba forced 20 miscues and converted those mistakes into 24 points. E&H scored 11 points on 12 Catawba turnovers.
