How It Happened
- It was a defensive struggle to begin the game as the Wasps held the Railsplitters to just five points through the opening six minutes and held a narrow 9-5 lead. A 20-5 run from the home team over the following six minutes of play saw them jump ahead 25-14 with just under nine minutes remaining in the half. The Wasps responded with an 11-6 run of their own, capped off with a three from senior guard/forward Gabe Brown (Clintwood, Va.) to reduce the deficit back to single digits as the teams came down the stretch of the opening stanza. Both squads traded buckets and a layup from sophomore guard Jackson Crawford (Daleville, Va.) made the score 38-30 heading into the locker room at the half.
- The Railsplitters began the second half with hot shooting from the field as they ripped off a 16-5 run to balloon their lead out to 19. A three by senior guard Jalen Leftwich (Lynchburg, Va.) and back-to-back buckets from freshman guard Sam Ritchie (Jacksonville Beach, Fla.) pulled the Wasps back within 11 with 10:07 on the clock. That was as close as the visitors from Emory would get however, as LMU saw their lead increase to as many as 29 en route to the 81-55 victory.
