Emory & Henry Men's Basketball Upends Catawba, 93-78, On Senior Day

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry University Men's Basketball Team (6-19, 4-17 SAC) honored its senior class in style as the Wasps took down Catawba College (14-10, 11-9 SAC) in South Atlantic Conference action Saturday afternoon. E&H drubbed the visitors from Salisbury by a 93-78 final scoreline. The Wasps honored the senior class of Jalen Leftwich (Lynchburg, Va.), Gabe Brown (Clintwood, Va.), Jake Moynihan (Muncie, Ind.) and student assistant Jake Thacker before the game.

How It Happened
- The teams went back-and-forth to begin the game and the score stood knotted at 14-14 with 12 minutes to play in the opening frame. A 10-4 spurt over the following three and a half minutes of gameplay saw the Wasps jump ahead 24-18. The visitors managed to claw their way back as they reduced the deficit to just a pair at 27-25, but E&H responded with an 11-2 run to give themselves some breathing room at 38-27 with 4:01 on the clock. The two squads traded blows down the stretch and the Wasps held on to a 44-36 advantage at the half.
- A quick 9-0 run out of the break from Catawba saw them take the lead for the first time since early in the first half, forcing an Emory & Henry timeout. With both teams sitting at 53 points at the 12:08 mark, the Wasps kicked into gear with nine consecutive points to push their margin back out to 62-53. That was as close as Catawba would get for the remainder of the contest as the home team kicked things into high gear, increasing their lead out to as many as 19 as they cruised to the 93-78 win. 

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Sophomore guard Jackson Crawford (Daleville, Va.) exploded for a career-high 32 points, four assists and a rebound while Brown poured in 22 points, nine rebounds, three assists, two blocks and a steal.
- Freshman guard Korbin Dixon (Milton, Ontario, CANADA) added 14 points, four rebounds and a pair of assists. Leftwich recorded 11 points, five assists, four rebounds and a pair of steals.

Catawba Individual Leaders
- Kris Robinson had a team-high 28 points, three rebounds, two assists and a steal while Solomon Tucker added 19 points, two rebounds and an assist.
- Ibra Athie went for 11 points, six rebounds, three assists and a pair of steals off of the bench for Catawba in the loss.

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry shot 28-for-48 (58.3%) from the floor and shot lights out from deep, shooting 56.5% (13-for-23). Catawba was 37.9% (25-for-66) overall and made just 7-for-22 of its attempts from beyond the three-point arc.
- Both teams lived at the free throw line as E&H was 24-for-29 (82.8%) and Catawba was 21-for-28 (75%).
- Catawba scored 20 second-chance points compared to just 10 for Emory & Henry.
- E&H held a slight 10-9 advantage on fastbreak points.
- The Catawba bench tallied 24 points compared to 10 for the Emory & Henry reserves.
