Emory & Henry Men’s Golf Finishes Third At D&E Battle At Brunswick Over The Weekend

CALABASH, N.C. – The Emory & Henry College Men's Golf Team posted a third place finish out of 10 competing teams at the D&E Battle at Brunswick, hosted by Davis & Elkins College on Sunday. The Wasps saw four competitors finish in the top 15 of the 95-player field.

Round One
Freshman Slade Aliff (Hardy, Va.) and junior Avery Alexander (Christiansburg, Va.) opened the event both scoring a +2 (74) to tie for fourth place. Sophomore Jhon Ojeda (Cali, COLOMBIA) carded a +4 (76) to tie for 10th.

Sophomore Alex Boone (Clyde, Va.) turned in a 78 (+6) in Saturday's round to sit tied for 23rd while freshmen Jordan Kuang Kyaw (Yangon, MYANMAR) and Peyton Spangler (Roanoke, Va.) were tied for 35th at 79 (+7).

Junior Sam Vandyne (Max Meadows, Va.) carded an 83 for a +11 and a T-61st placing while sophomores Peerapol Huangching (Rayong, THAILAND) and Trent Gehringer (Fleetwood, Pa.) tied for 78th at 88 (+16).

Round Two
Aliff posted a 74 (+2) for the second day in a row, finishing in seventh place while Alexander notched a 76 (+4) to tie for eighth. Kuang Kyaw carded a 73 (+1) , moving up 24 spots from his day one position to tie for 11th as Ojeda had a 76 (+4) for the second day in a row, also tying for 11th.

Spangler shot a +7 (79) on Sunday to tie for 34th as Boone ended the tournament tied for 42nd with a second round of 82 (+10). Gehringer improved his ranking by 10 positions, shooting a 79 (+8) to finish tied for 68th while Vandyne carded an 85 (+13) to tie for 71st. Huangching went for an 83 (+11) to retain his position at 78th.

The Winners
Jordan Hyland of Davis & Elkins led wire-to-wire, claiming medalist honors with a -2 (70-72 – 142). D&E's Evan Lewis and Josh DiCarlo from Wayne State (Mich.) University tied for runner-up three shots back at +1.

Davis & Elkins won the tournament with rounds of 300 and 293 for an overall score of +17 to defeat No. 36 Wayne State by one shot. Emory & Henry finished the tournament at +33 in third place.

Up Next
The Wasps will play in Tusculum University's Bob Dibble Intercollegiate on Monday and Tuesday of next week. The tournament will take place at Link Hills Country Club in Greeneville, Tennessee.
