Emory & Henry Men’s Golf Takes Runner-Up Honors At D&E Battle At Brunswick In Rain-Shortened Affair

CALABASH, N.C. – The Emory & Henry College Men's Golf Team posted a second-place finish out of 10 competing schools at the D&E Battle at Brunswick over the weekend. The tournament was called after 27 of the scheduled 36 holes due to rain on the North Carolina coast.

Round One
Sophomore Jordan Kuang Kyaw (Yangon, MYANMAR) shot a -1 (71) on the first day to sit in second place while sophomore Slade Aliff (Hardy, Va.) carded a +3 (75) which was good for 13th overall.

Senior Avery Alexander (Christiansburg, Va.) posted a 75 (+3) to sit tied for 18th while freshman Ryne Bond (Floyd, Va.) went for a +7 (79), tied for 29th. Junior Jhon Ojeda (Cali, COLOMBIA) tied for 36th at +9 (81).

Round Two
Kuang Kyaw was even par through nine holes to finish tied for second at -1 (71-36 - 107) while Aliff moved up seven spots with a -1 (35) to finish sixth at +2 (75-35 – 110).

Alexander was +6 (42) at the turn when play concluded, tying for 26th (118) while Ojeda fired a +1 (37) to leap 10 places to also tie for 26th (80-37 – 118). Bond shot a 42 (+6) to finish tied for 38th at (+13).

The Winners
Wayne State (Mich.) ran away with the team title, finishing at -1 for the event (287-144 – 431) with four players in the top four and ties. E&H was second, 20 strokes back at 451 (+19).

WSU's Mat Hawryluk won the event at -2 (70-36) while teammate Ian Smith tied for second with Kuang Kyaw at -1 (107).

Up Next
Emory & Henry will be back in action at the Northeast Tennessee Spring Shootout on Tuesday, April 2. The tournament will be played at Johnson City Country Club.
