David Tayloe is in his first year as Head Men's & Women's Golf Coach at Emory & Henry University. He will be responsible for leading both programs for the spring 2025 semester.
Tayloe has spent 24 years in the golf industry. He was elected to the Professional Golfers' Association as a Class "A" member in August 1986. Tayloe served as the Head Golf Professional and Director of Golf at Glenrochie Country Club in Abingdon, Virginia from 1990 to 2001. During his time with the PGA, Tayloe was elected as Chapter Director for the Tri-Cities PGA in the Tennessee Section. He received multiple service awards and honors for his time as Chapter Director from 1994 through 1999.
Tayloe has been the Assistant Golf Coach for Southwest Virginia Community College in Richlands for the past year-and-a-half, working with Head Golf Coach Bryan Greenway. He is currently taking a leave of absence from Southwest to lead the Emory & Henry program through the end of the 2024-25 season and will return to Southwest in the fall of 2025. Tayloe is also currently working as a one-on-one teaching aide with Washington County (Virginia) Public Schools.
Tayloe is a 1982 graduate of Emory & Henry College, earning a Bachelor of Arts Degree in business management. As an undergraduate, he and Athletic Director/Head Football Coach Larry Bales restarted the men’s golf program in 1979 as a club sport and saw it elevated to varsity status. During his time with the program, Tayloe served as a player-coach and was named to the All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference Team as a junior in 1981.
Tayloe is married to Emory & Henry alumna Elizabeth Puyear Tayloe, class of 1981. They have two adult sons, Nathaniel “Nate” Tayloe, Emory & Henry class of 2018, and Ryan Tayloe. The couple resides in Abingdon.
