
EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry University Men's Lacrosse Team (0-13, 0-8 SAC) fell in South Atlantic Conference play to Coker University (7-7, 4-4 SAC) inside the Food City Sports Complex Friday afternoon. The Cobras defeated the Wasps by a 24-5 final.

How It Happened
- Coker struck first at the 10:08 mark to take the early lead, but Emory & Henry responded just over two minutes later. Freshman midfielder David Mewes (Greenville, S.C.) found fellow freshman attacker Dakotah Hawkins (Roanoke, Va.) who slotted home a shot to tie the score at 1-1. Coker scored twice unanswered to push their advantage out to 3-1, but the Wasps got on the board once again just before the end of the period. Freshman faceoff Jaxon Blackshear (Hedgesville, W.Va.) dished to freshman attacker Collin Shell (Blountville, Tenn.) who found the back of the net to decrease the deficit to 3-2 after one. It was all Cobras in the second period as they tallied 10 unanswered goals to take a 13-2 lead into the halftime break.
- Coker continued its scoring streak to begin the second half as the Cobras scored eight more goals to push their advantage out to 21-2. E&H got back on the board with 47 seconds left in the period when Mewes scored on an assist from Hawkins to cut the margin to 21-3. The visitors tallied two more goals to start the final period to make it 23-3, but the Wasps answered back. Mewes found Hawkins for another goal at the 5:50 mark and Shell scored unassisted 45 seconds later. Coker would record the final goal of the game for the 24-5 win.
Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Hawkins led the Wasps with two goals, one assist, three ground balls and a caused turnover. Shell finished with two goals while Mewes had one goal, two assists, five ground balls and caused a pair of turnovers.
- Freshman defender Isaiah Ward (Fredericksburg, Va.) caused four turnovers and scooped up four ground balls while fellow freshman defender Noah Parrish (Manassas, Va.) had three ground balls and three caused turnovers.
Coker Individual Leaders
- Justin Beighey finished with 11 goals, five assists, two ground balls and a caused turnover. Kaleb Hiltz added four goals and a pair of assists while Ryan Forehand added three goals and three assists.
- KJ Seymour and Rhys Galloway combined for 12 saves in net for the Cobras.

- The Wasps hit the road next Saturday, April 19 when they travel to take on the Pioneers of Tusculum University. Faceoff is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. from Greeneville, Tennessee.
