Emory & Henry Men’s Soccer Ready For Growth In 2012

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Men's Soccer Team may be picked to finish last in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, but the Wasps are "All In" for the 2012 season. Under second-year Head Coach Nathan Kish, E&H is looking forward to a year where it will continue the improvement from a year ago and start to turn some heads in the ODAC.

The Wasps will have to replace the College's all-time leading goal scorer in P.J. Henson, who graduated in May, but there is a strong core of players returning and a wealth of newcomers that are eager to make their mark on the field for E&H this season.

Returning this season for Emory & Henry are senior midfielders Will Bodfish (Morganton, N.C.), Jon Bruno (Mooresville, N.C.) and senior defenders Brock Hanna (Marion, N.C.) and Heath Culbreth (Tryon, N.C.). They are joined by sophomore defenders Cody Gregory (Charlotte, N.C.) and Kendall Akers (Radford, Va.).

Senior goalkeeper Justin Spencer (Statesville, N.C.) is back after playing over 1200 minutes a year ago in his first campaign with the Wasps. He posted 59 saves and a 1.77 goals against average en route to being selected as the team's defensive MVP.

The Wasps welcome 11 freshmen to their ranks spread out all over the field. Standouts from fall camp include defender Tory Schneider (Williamsburg, Va.), forward Raj Brahmbhatt (Lawrenceville, Ga.), forward Devon Brodkin (Blacksburg, Va.) and midfielder Seth Phillips (Ooltewah, Tenn.).

Emory & Henry will open the 2012 season when it travels to Columbus, Ohio to compete in the Fort Rapids Invitational hosted by Capital University. The Wasps will face the Purple Raiders of the University of Mount Union on Friday afternoon at 5:00 p.m., and will take on the host Crusaders on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
