Emory & Henry Men's Soccer Battles Lynchburg To A 1-1 Tie

LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Emory & Henry College Men's Soccer Team (2-5-1, 0-0-1 ODAC) opened the 2012 Old Dominion Athletic Conference season with a 1-1 tie against Lynchburg College (1-4-1, 0-0-1 ODAC) Saturday evening at Shellenberger Field.

The Wasps took a 1-0 lead with just over a minute left to go before the end of the first half. Sophomore midfielder James Ballamy (Worthing, West Sussex, ENGLAND) took a pass from senior forward Jesus Mendoza (Villagran, MEXICO) and was able to find the back of the net.

With 14 minutes remaining in the contest, Lynchburg found the equalizing goal as Chaz Ashton recorded an unassisted score.

After 90 minutes of regulation saw a 1-1 tie, the two squads would play through two 10-minute periods of sudden victory soccer, but neither team would be able to take the victory.

Emory & Henry senior goalkeeper Justin Spencer (Statesville, N.C.) made a career-high 14 saves while his Hornet counterpart Michael Releford had one save as each netminder allowed a goal.

For the game, Lynchburg outshot E&H by a 41-6 margin and held a 13-0 advantage on corner kicks.

Emory & Henry will travel to Covenant College on Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. for a non-conference matchup with the Scots.
