Guilford Men's Soccer Defeats Emory & Henry, 4-1, Wednesday In ODAC Play

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Guilford College Men's Soccer Team (6-5, 3-2 ODAC) picked up a 4-1 victory over Emory & Henry College (2-10-1, 0-4-1 ODAC) in Old Dominion Athletic Conference play Wednesday evening at the Armfield Athletic Center.

The Quakers struck first in the 26th minute as Ronnie Castellanos found Freddy Gomez with a through ball into the middle of the box that he put past the keeper. Guilford made the score 2-0 as Erik Collazo took a throw-in from Chad Gunton and found the back of the net.

GC extended its lead to 3-0 just 4:40 into the second half as Gomez got his second goal of the contest on a long pass from Gunton into the midfield.

Emory & Henry got on the board in the 67th minute as senior Will Bodfish's (Morganton, N.C.) shot deflected off the post and senior forward Jesus Mendoza (Villagran, MEXICO) finished past the goalkeeper to make the score 3-1.

Guilford added a final goal with 3:16 remaining in the match. Drew Gunter put the ball in the back of the net off a corner kick with Corey McDonough for the final 4-1 margin.

The Quaker goalkeeping tandem of Michael MacVane and Marko Mandalinic combined for four saves while E&H freshman Tim Coulter (Mooresville, N.C.) had six saves and senior Justin Spencer (Statesville, N.C.) had four saves.

Emory & Henry will travel to Ashland, Va. on Friday to face Randolph-Macon College. Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m.
