ASHLAND, Va. - The Emory & Henry College Men's Soccer Team (2-10-2, 0-4-2 ODAC) earned a point in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference standings Friday afternoon as it drew 1-1 with Randolph-Macon College (2-6-3, 2-3-1 ODAC). The tie marked the end of a five-match skid for the Wasps.
Thirty-eight minutes into the first half, which appeared it would go scoreless, Emory & Henry drew a fould in their attacking third. Rather than trying to connect a header for a opportunity, sophomore midfielder James Ballamy (Worthing, West Sussex, ENGLAND) buried the free kick in the back of the net to give the Wasps a 1-0 lead in the match.
In the second period, the two squads were nearly even in shots and played the majority of the contest jockeying for possession in the midfield. Randolph-Macon was able to equalize the score with just 3:34 remaining in the contest as Andrew Oakes converted for a score.
The match would reach the conclusion of regulation tied at a goal apiece, forcing overtime. Both squads had opportunities in the first extra frame, with R-MC edging E&H in shots 3-2. Neither team was able to claim the victory, and a second overtime was set.
The final portion of the match echoed it's 10-minute predecessor as the final score was settled at 1-1.
Emory & Henry was led by sophomore forward Konner Dozark (Tampa, Fla.) with four shots while Ballamy directed three toward the frame, including his first-half score. Randolph-Macon got six shots from Oakes and four from Fernando Rochi in the contest.
Senior goalkeeper Justin Spencer (Statesville, N.C.) tallied three saves in the match, allowing just one goal.
The Wasps will return home on Wednesday to face the Generals of Washington and Lee University in ODAC action. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. at Fred Selfe Stadium.
