FERRUM, Va. – The Ferrum College Men's Soccer Team (3-1) picked up a 2-1 win over visiting Emory & Henry College (1-4) Wednesday evening in a non-conference matchup at Penn-Roediger Field.
After nearly an entire half of scoreless play, Jae White put the Panthers on the board at the 39:18 mark. The score would remain 1-0 at the intermission.
Ferrum got its second goal just 1:45 into the second half as Eddy Funes took a pass from Andres Juarez and struck it past the E&H goalkeeper.
It appeared as if the final margin would be 2-0, but the Wasps were able to earn a penalty kick in the 85th minute. Sophomore defender Tory Schneider (Williamsburg, Va.) stepped to the spot and converted the chance for his second goal of the season.
E&H freshman goalkeeper Joe Kedanis (Carmel, Ind.) made nine saves in the contest despite the loss while Justin Robinson picked up the win for Ferrum.
The Panthers held a 20-2 advantage on shots and took nine corner kicks compared to just three for the Wasps.
Emory & Henry will have its first home match of the season on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. The Wasps will host the Lions of Piedmont College.
