Virginia Wesleyan Men’s Soccer Takes Down Emory & Henry, 6-1, Saturday Afternoon

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Virginia Wesleyan College Men's Soccer Team (6-2, 2-0 ODAC) picked up a 6-1 win over Emory & Henry College (1-6, 0-1 ODAC) Saturday afternoon in Old Dominion Athletic Conference play.

The Marlins got out to a 2-0 lead in the first 15 minutes of the contest. Josh Kemp cleaned up the rebound off of Isaac Arrington's shot for the first goal of the match and Brian Cornell found Travis Walke for a shot from 10 yards out for the second. VWC made it 3-0 at the half when Kyle Fisher finished off of Philip Smith's corner kick.

Just 52 seconds after the start of the second half, Arrington made the score 4-0 with a shot from 15 yards out. Brian Cornell and Reid Peterson each scored before the hour mark to make the score 6-0 in favor of Virginia Wesleyan.

At the 58:29 mark, Emory & Henry got on the board to spoil the shutout. Junior midfielder Kenny Sterne (Lynchburg, Va.) placed a shot into the center of the goal from 10 yards out for the score.

VWC outshot E&H by a 32-7 margin and held a 9-1 advantage on corner kicks. The Wasps forced the Marlins offside on seven different occasions during the afternoon.

Connor Kirkham and Jason Hoernke combined for the win for VWC while Emory & Henry freshman Joe Kedanis (Carmel, Ind.) made 13 saves despite the loss.

E&H will host No. 18 Roanoke College on Wednesday evening at 7:30 p.m., in an ODAC matchup at Fred Selfe Stadium.
