Randolph-Macon Men’s Soccer Beats Emory & Henry, 4-0, Saturday Afternoon

EMORY, Va. – The Randolph-Macon College Men's Soccer Team (3-4, 1-2 ODAC) scored four goals in a 15-minute period as they defeated Emory & Henry College (1-8, 0-3 ODAC) by a 4-0 score Saturday afternoon in Old Dominion Athletic Conference play.

R-MC got the first goal of the match at the 22:33 mark. Brock Barbeau took a pass from David Sullivan down the right side and beat the keeper on the near post with the shot. Barbeau made it 2-0 just 2:36 later when he one-timed in a ball which Andrew Oakes centered across the face of the goal.

The Yellow Jackets pushed the score to 4-0, scoring a pair of goals in the 37th minute. Jack Maxey made it 3-0 at the 36:09 mark with a free-kick goal from the right side of the field. Will Topping beat the final defender after taking a pass ahead from Matt Houle and slotted the ball to the left side of the goal.

Emory & Henry got things together in the second half as the defense was more solid and the midfield possessed the ball with more efficiency. The Wasps earned a penalty kick late in the 69th minute but were unable to convert the opportunity and spoil the Yellow Jackets shutout.

E&H outshot R-MC by a 22-12 margin in the match but the Yellow Jackets placed seven shots on goal to just four for the Wasps. Randolph-Macon won the battle of corner kicks, 4-2, and was called offside on four occasions.

Freshman goalkeeper Joe Kedanis (Carmel, Ind.) made three saves in the match. Senior midfielder Zach James (Stephens City, Va.) led the Wasps with seven shots while senior forward Luis Peralta (Robbins, N.C.) had four attempts.

Emory & Henry will travel to Sewanee, Tenn. tomorrow for a 6:00 p.m. contest with The University of the South.
