Sewanee Men’s Soccer Takes Care Of Emory & Henry, 4-1, Sunday

SEWANEE, Tenn. – The University of the South's Men's Soccer Team (5-3-2) picked up a 4-1 victory over visiting Emory & Henry College (1-9) Sunday evening. It was the second match in as many days for the Wasps.

The Tigers got on the board at the 8:03 mark as Ford Emerson intercepted a pass, took a touch and shot it past the Wasps' goalkeeper.  Sewanee made it 2-0 in the 14thh minute when Brian Maloney played a through ball that found the feet of William White, who finished for the score.

Emory & Henry got on the board with eight minutes to go before halftime. Freshman midfielder Zach Quest (Charlotte, N.C.) received a long pass and played the ball to sophomore forward Pierce Moreland (Bristol, Tenn.) who placed it in the back of the net for the 2-1 score.

Sewanee made it 3-1 at the 62:40 mark when Emerson got his second goal of the match. White was on the assisting end this time, crossing the ball in for Emerson's score. Maloney also got a goal of his own when he beat the keeper for an unassisted score.

The Tigers held a 29-11 advantage on shots in the contest including a 14-4 margin on shots on goal. The corner kick count was knotted, 3-3, while E&H was called offside four times to Sewanee's five.

Holden Foster picked up the win in goal for The University of the South making three saves in 69 minutes of play. Wasp freshman Didier Grillett (Charlotte, N.C.) stopped 10 shots in his career debut in goal despite the loss.

Emory & Henry will return to Old Dominion Athletic Conference action on Friday evening when it travels to face off against Hampden-Sydney College. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
