Covenant Men's Soccer Defeats Emory & Henry, 2-0, Monday Evening

EMORY, Va. - The Covenant College Men's Soccer Team (7-4-2) picked up a 2-0 non-conference win over Emory & Henry College (1-11) Monday evening at Fred Selfe Stadium.

Controlling much of the opening half of play, the Scots got on the board in the 22nd minute. After E&H failed to get a corner kick completely out of the box, Covenant's Snoopy Davidson, who is a Division I transfer, cleaned up a bouncing ball in front of the goal and slotted it to the back post.

The Wasps had chances of their own in the first half but would go into the break down by the 1-0 score.

After the intermission, Emory & Henry came out with a renewed intensity, stealing the momentum from Covenant. In the first 15 minutes of the second half, the Wasps had multiple shots on goal that tried the Scots' goalkeeper.

The momentum shifted back to the visitors at the 63:58 mark when Davidson tallied his second goal of the match, this one off of a corner kick served in by Matt Hudnut.

Covenant stayed in command for the rest of the match to win, 2-0, although Emory & Henry challenged late to put a tally on the scoreboard.

Davidson notched 13 shots including six on goal to lead the Scots offensively while Shuler Polk made seven saves, earning the shutout.

E&H freshman Didier Grillet (Charlotte, N.C.) stopped six shots in just his second match between the pipes while sophomore Tory Schneider (Williamsburg, Va.) and freshman Zach Quest (Charlotte, N.C.) each put two of their three shots on frame.

For the match, Covenant held the slim margin of 18-16 on shots but earned seven corner kicks to just one for Emory & Henry. The Wasps forced the Scots into being called offside on six different occasions.

E&H will travel to Harrisonburg, Va. on Wednesday evening as it re-enters Old Dominion Athletic Conference play. The Wasps will take on the Royals of Eastern Mennonite University at 7:00 p.m.
