Eastern Mennonite Men’s Soccer Gets Past Emory & Henry, 2-0, Wednesday

HARRISONBURG, Va. – The Eastern Mennonite University Men's Soccer Team (3-9, 1-5 ODAC) picked up its first Old Dominion Athletic Conference win of the season Wednesday evening as it defeated Emory & Henry College (1-12, 0-5 ODAC) by a 2-0 score.

The Royals got on the board in the 38th minute as Brendan Jeschke crossed a ball in that found the head of Parker Leap for the goal. The Emory & Henry defense held strong for the next 42 minutes before EMU scored again.

With 10:09 left in the match, Leap found himself as the recipient of a pass from Mark Mast that he put in the back of the net for his second goal of the match and the 2-0 advantage.

Though Eastern Mennonite held a 26-13 advantage on shots, the Wasps only trailed the Royals 8-7 in shots on goal. EMU led 11-1 on corner kicks but E&H forced six offside calls in the match.

Senior Zach James (Stephens City, Va.), sophomore Pierce Moreland (Bristol, Tenn.) and freshman Zach Quest (Charlotte, N.C.) each had attempts at goal for the Wasps but were unable to beat the Royals' goalkeeper.

Emory & Henry freshman goalkeeper Joe Kedanis (Carmel, Ind.) and Didier Grillett (Charlotte, N.C.) combined to make six saves in the match while Eastern Mennonite's Peter Dutcher had seven stops to complete the shutout.

E&H will return home on Saturday evening for a 5:00 p.m., ODAC matchup with Shenandoah University.
