Bridgewater Men’s Soccer Defeats Emory & Henry, 2-0, Tuesday

EMORY, Va. – The Bridgewater College Men's Soccer Team (8-7-3, 5-4-2 ODAC) claimed a 2-0 victory over Emory & Henry College Tuesday afternoon at Fred Selfe Stadium. The Wasps conclude the 2013 season with a 2-17 overall record and a 1-10 record in the ODAC.

The two squads battled for the first 15 minutes of the match with neither team exerting dominance early. Bridgewater got on the board early in the 20th minute as Patrick Thornton sent a pass ahead to Ben Lewis, who went one-on-one with the goalkeeper for the 1-0 advantage. The Eagles would take the one-goal lead into the break.

BC made it 2-0 just eight minutes into the second half. Thornton was on the receiving end of the pass this time when Ethan McBryde gave up a scoring opportunity of his own to find Thornton wide open on the back post for a one-timer and the goal.

Bridgewater held a slim 14-13 margin on shots while Emory & Henry had an 8-7 advantage on corner kicks. The Wasps also forced the Eagles to be called offside on seven different occasions during the match.

Senior forward Luis Peralta (Robbins, N.C.) had a team-high four shots for E&H while freshman Zach Quest (Charlotte, N.C.) had three shots. Freshman Jeff Masar (Pinehurst, N.C.) nearly had a breakthrough goal for the Wasps in the second half.

Kevin Morris made four saves for Bridgewater as he picked up the shutout win in goal while Emory & Henry freshman Didier Grillett (Matthews, N.C.) stopped five shots in the contest despite the loss.
