EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Men's Soccer Team showed its support for two different causes during October. The Wasps wore pink warm-up shirts and red wristbands at their five home matches this month.
The pink warm-ups were in support of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. E&H players also wore pink pennies over their jerseys when they were on the bench. Now in its 29th year, Breast Cancer Awareness Month was founded by the American Cancer Society in 1985 and has been denoted by the pink ribbon since 1993.
The Wasps also wore red wristbands as part of the Red Flag Campaign, a program founded in 2005 to help stop dating violence on Virginia's college campuses. Since its inception, the program has gone from 10 pilot schools across the Commonwealth to over 100 institutions in 27 states. These colleges range from virtually unknown Skagit Valley College in Mt. Vernon, Washington to household names such as the University of Alabama and the University of Kansas.
