Emory & Henry Men’s Soccer Announces Schedule For 2014 Season

EMORY, Va. - The Emory & Henry College Men's Soccer Team and Head Coach Robert Richardson have released the schedule for the 2014 campaign. This year, the team will once again be faced with a demanding non-conference schedule, in addition to an always-challenging Old Dominion Athletic Conference slate of contests.

The Wasps get the season started in Anderson, Indiana for the "Raven-Quaker Classic" where the team will face Anderson University in their season opener. The Ravens are coming off a 10-9 season and have been HCAC conference tournament runners-up twice (2010, 2012) and semi-finalists (2009) in the last five seasons.

The following day, the Wasps face the Quakers of Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana.  Led by 33-year veteran Roy Messer, EC is coming off an 11-8-1 season and is the reining HCAC Conference Champion.

Emory & Henry will return to the mountains of Southwest Virginia for a four-match home stand beginning with the inaugural Wasps Classic. The tournament is a three-day, six-team event held in conjunction with the E&H women's team.

The Wasps will take the field first against Bluefield College on Friday, Sept. 5 at 5:00 p.m., and will host William Peace University on Sunday, Sept. 7 at 1:00 p.m. This will be followed by a non-conference match against Ferrum College on Wednesday, Sept. 10 before the ODAC opener against reining league champion Randolph College on Saturday, Sept. 13 at 3:30 p.m.

Emory & Henry will go on the road for four matches in the final two weeks of September. Friday, September 19 will be an important contest for the Wasps as they make the trip to Winchester, Va., for a league contest against the Shenandoah University Hornets at 6:00 p.m.

October will see E&H split its eight matches evenly across home and away dates. The Wasps will host Hampden-Sydney College on Saturday, October 4 at 5:30 p.m. following the Family Weekend football game.

After traveling for four of the next five contests, Emory & Henry will play its final two matches of the year in the confines of Fred Selfe Stadium. Homecoming Saturday (Oct. 25) will set the stage for a bout with Virginia Wesleyan College at 5:00 p.m.

The final game of the season is set for Wednesday, October 29, a doubleheader with the Wasp women against Washington and Lee University. The women's match will start at 5:00 p.m., with the men following at 7:30 p.m.
