FOREST, Va. – Emory & Henry College freshman forward Tyequis Stallins has been named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Player of the Week, ODAC officials announced Monday.
It is the first time in over six years that an Emory & Henry player has earned weekly honors from the league. In the first week of the 2009 season, P.J. Henson was named player of the week after scoring a pair of match winning goals against Huntingdon College and LaGrange College.
Stallins, a native of Chesapeake, Virginia, found the back of the net three times for his first three collegiate goals. In Friday afternoon's 6-0 win against the University of Valley Forge, the Western Branch High School graduate put the Wasps up 3-0 with his strike late in the 43rd minute. Stallins scored again late in the second half, giving E&H a 5-0 advantage with 12:34 to go.
Saturday against Cairn University, Stallins scored what would prove to be the match-winner at the 37:25 mark of the game. The Wasps earned a 2-1 win over the Highlanders to even their season record to 2-2-1.
Stallins is currently tied for the team lead for goals with three and is second in points (six).
Emory & Henry will next take the field on Saturday when it travels to Virginia Wesleyan College for a 1:00 p.m., kickoff. The match will be the ODAC opener for both schools.
